no, this "issue" is total bullshit. I couldnt fucking believe they had a segment on this, and actually found some woman on there to talk about HOW its offensive.

Things must be pretty good in this country, when people want to bitch about being called sweetie.

Honestly moron, when they first started the segment, I got pissed bc I thought they were talking about how nice obama is for calling a female reporter sweetie.. I was like.. giveme a break.. then I was shocked when it went negative. I really thought I was hearing it wrong.

I obviously don't like PC either. But I'm telling you, if a Republican had done this, the press would have gone apeshit.

You know it--you all know it's true. I'm not even going to debate it.

NOW would have a COW!

Pretty minor thing. Obama is a big gov't stealth marxist ..and that is a much more compelling reason to keep him out of the White House.

a "stealth marxist." lol. whatever. the dude's slightly left of center, but still fairly moderate ... Anyhow, it's the "Congressional Branch" of government who passes the laws, didja hear?

the real concern is related to *actual* presidential powers, and that there there will be at least 2, and quite possibly 5, Supreme Court Justices retire in the next 4 years.

McCain says he'll appoint justices in the mold of Samuel Alito.

fuck THAT.

our president really DOES go too far with what he says to press on a regular basis, and we rarely hear about that, just because he does it so much.

^ I also somehow doubt there's not a video somewhere of a Republican calling someone sweetheart or sweetie or darling or something along those lines.

It's amazing that someone would think to make an issue out of this.

McCain called a 14 year old girl a "very attractive young woman" and I don't think anyone in the media made an issue out of that.

All this nitpicking by the media seems to be making Obama a bit more tense than he has been in the past, and this new "scandal" doesn't help him in this regard.

I wish we could see more of this Obama:

^^^^ And? Can you not even see the difference?

Look, I'm really not trying to defend McCain or even attack Obama on either issue, neither of which I thought was a big deal. But try calling a grown woman "sweetie" in a professional situation and see what happens--it's light years from simply telling a young lady that she's pretty.

In the McCain situation, I would have used "pretty" instead of "attractive"--but I would probably stay away from commenting on the appearance of people in general--especially women. In addition, just about any 14-year-old girl is happy to be elevated a bit in years and self-esteem by being referred to in a positive way as a "young woman."

Don't you remember the first few times you were called "sir" as a sign of respect. Well, it probably hasn't happened for you yet, but keep letting those chin whiskers fill in and who knows. . . .

slightly? c'mon!

"...and it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." -- Barack Obama

“Religious suffering is at the same time an expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, and the soul of a soulless condition. It is the opium of the people.” -- Karl Marx

Someone needs to ask Obama about his self-admitted relationship with openly communist mentor Frank Marshall Davis.

Show me one Obama policy or statement that doesn't imply that corporations are evil, capitalism is flawed at its base, individual economic liberty is wrong, and the greedy rich owe the ragged poor.

He wants to raise the capital gains tax to punish a few super successful people, without a thought for the millions of other regular Americans who own stocks. He has the most liberal voting record in the senate...beating out John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy.

"Slightly left"? That's a laugh.

well, for one thing his health care plan is not a single payer system, but focuses more on making private and/or public insurance open for all. this is a far more capitalist plan than many on the left.

excessive political correctness annoys the fuck out of me.

can we please talk about the real merits and flaws of the candidates/parties, or does it always have to degenerate into schoolyard taunts and bumbersticker one liners?

It does, because sadly the general public is still a great unwashed mass. Believe it or not, the debate here on TWW's Soap Box forum is relatively high brow and being put forth by people who are more intelligent and better educated than the majority of the voting public. Think about that for a second and then be afraid, be very afraid. There are people on here who honestly believe that he Iraq war is going just peachy and others that think that the wealthiest American's still aren't paying "their fair share" of taxes.

Arrogant and Elitist.

I am not faulting him for saying that, it was an innocent mistake. The thing is he is fighting an certain image that is not going to appeal to a lot of voters. This incident just adds
to that image.

clearly this is just guilt by association...its completely irrelevant when trying to ascertain a presidential candidate's views and policies, to bring up any communists or anti american racists like Davis or Wright...obviously none of them had a single influence on Obama's way of thinking...lets just try and distance Obama from these questionable folks...that is until Obama is again forced to throw one of his friends under the bus in an effort to not seem like a socialist

also boonedocks its good to see you making a lot of intelligent well-thought out posts in this thread and not resorting to some one-liners of sarcasm and/or all caps...you know, since you're the model poster, and only OTHER people troll
