Terrorist Sympathizer
Quote : | "Of donuts and dumb celebrities By Michelle Malkin • May 23, 2008 12:50 PM
1ddrr.jpg Sigh. You all know I’ve been a fan of Dunkin Donuts for quite some time–and have touted their strong position in favor of immigration enforcement.
Charles Johnson notes, and many readers have e-mailed about, Dunkin Donuts’ spokeswoman Rachel Ray’s clueless sporting of a jihadi chic keffiyeh in a recent DD ad campaign. I’m hoping her hate couture choice was spurred more by ignorance than ideology.
Is Ray’s blunder worth boycotting DD over? I’ll be interested to hear the company’s take. At this point, I’m going to give the management the benefit of the doubt. They have braved boycott threats and attacks over their lonely, principled stance against illegal immigration. Given their pro-rule of law, America first position, I highly doubt the executive offices are filled with moonbats who endorse Ray’s keffiyeh chic." |

It's disappointing to see a company with such otherwise principled stances let this slip through. It would be one thing if this was an isolated incident, but liberal celebrities have been supporting all sorts of un-American causes lately through subtle means. Whether they are Useful Idiots or legit agents is yet to be seen. Other instances:
Cameron Diaz sports Maoist-chic bag: http://newsbusters.org/node/13683
Sean Penn raves over Chavez, Visits the Dictator in Venezuela: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/lynn-davidson/2007/11/16/sean-penn-hugo-chavez-much- more-positive-venezuela-negative
"Hollywood Stud" Jude Law Lionizes Soviet Heroes: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0215750/
Whether cleverly crafted by foreign agents or simply more "useful idiots" at work, this is a situation that spits on the Constitution and all that is worth fighting for. Such consistently calculated/stupid actions, if you would like to read more, have been painstakingly chronicled by some authors you should be reading. Check these books out:
Useful Idiots: How Liberals Got It Wrong in the Cold War and Still Blame America First (Hardcover) by Mona Charen

Also, so that you may plan your mornings accordingly based on your opinions of this incident, here are the Dunkin Donuts outlets in the area. A boycott might be a bit much, we all live hectic lives and know that America Runs on Dunkin. However, please at least register a complaint at a store:

Are we seriously going to bring up a keffiyeh in a Dunkin' Donuts commercial as a sign that liberal celebrities support Teh Terror without also mentioning John McCain's daughter wearing a keffiyeh on the campaign trail? http://gawker.com/5003288/mccain-daughter-dons-islamic-terror-scarf
Neither incident is worthy of press, they both can be chalked up to poor taste and a resurgence in 1980's fashion; they're both nonissues and political nonstarters. Who cares, really? There are celebrities with all kinds of views, and we can criticize some of them if we feel like rising to the challenge of being internet toolbags, but I'm going to be the last person to criticize someone for wearing a scarf in a commercial advertising a frozen beverage. 5/27/2008 1:44:00 AM |

Throw her to the wolves! I really hope lots of Republicans/conservatives latch on to this issue so they'll have to admit they appreciate political correctness too.

One, it's Michelle Malkin raising a battle cry here (there's some points for credibility), and two, do you even think these celebretards know what a keffiyeh even is?

I think it's actually kind of amazing how communist propoganda has been absorbed into American culture as pop art. I mean, you could buy Mao jackets & hats at target last winter for crying out loud (now your out-of-fashion ass can only find them at Plato's Closet)!
Not that I'm complaining really. I mean, I have to admit that a lot of that stuff looks really fucking cool. Does anyone else remember that Commie Bar that Wayne and Garth Visited in Waynes World II (was that the one)? That thing was righteous! I would totally drink there....or at the People's Republik in Cambridge.
But I can still understand why people would be offended. Millions upon millions of people died as a result Communist governments in China and the former Soviet Union. That stuff tends to stick with you. No matter how cool looking the posters were.

How does keffiyeh equal terrorist? That's kind of like saying sneakers equal democracy. 5/27/2008 8:40:35 AM |

I think its the delicious irony of Communist icons being twisted into the ultimate capitalist expression that gives them such a thrill. It gives me a laugh because its pretty much a mocking of these figures and the buyers who may sincerely support their ideologies, by the very capitalist machine who profits on them.
As for Rachel Ray and Dunkin Donuts, I see no reason why anyone wearing a keffiyeh should be viewed as supporting Islamic terrorists. This seems like a real stretch to me.5/27/2008 9:25:19 AM |

Here's about the only way the keffiyeh is considered a "terrorist symbol":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh#Palestinian_national_symbol
But that's really, really stretching it. Next thing you know, they'll be going after Shriners for wearing the Fez! (Terrorists in miniature cars! Oh gnoes!)
//Edit:
Or perhaps this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh#Symbol_of_Palestinian_solidarity.3F
But that would have to assume both that the item in question was actually associated with Palestine, and not some stupid new fashion trend:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh#Fashion_trend
