i've looked around craigslist and ebay and i'm not seeing what i want (that's cheap enough). i want the sit-in kind, not the sit-on-top kind. if you had 2, that'd be even better.

i want them to own, plus i'm not in raleigh so renting from rei would be difficult and there are rental places here (rocky mount).

i don't know much about kayaks, so i'm not sure exactly what to tell you as far as quality, or price really. most of the cheaper ones seem to be old town, and that's fine with me, but they're like $400 new. i'm looking for half that. i'm not sure, if you've got something you want to get rid of, post it and we'll see.

it doesn't need to be pretty. if it's not absolutely disgusting and floats, then it's in the running.

how much are you looking to spend?

guy i work for has a wilderness systems that he said he would let go for about 300. I don't know the specifics other than it's sit-in and was like 850 new.

I was just gonna say if all you want is a cheap one and you don't want a some high end crap for cheap . . . Dicks will occasionally mark the cheap plastic ones down to like 200

if you're new to it, pick up the kind they use on kayak tours on lakes/oceans.

those are pretty foolproof.

i have a sit-on-top one that i use at the beach. it lives there and i don't want to bring it here...plus i don't really like the sit-on-top kind anyway. i want just a regular run of the mill normal kayak that you sit in. i've used the sit-in variety a few times, most recently 2 weeks ago, and would much prefer that type...so i'm not inexperienced but i'm not a regular and not advanced. i have a tiny bit of experience in rivers (more so in canoes than kayaks), which is where i'm trying to take this one.

i would love to find a used one like they use for tours. if you know of any, let me know.

Go online and look up "Pro Canoe & Kayak" (also called "Get Outdoors"). They have stores in Raleigh and Greensboro and they used to (2-3 years ago) post used boats for sale on their website. They also had a Wilmington store, but I think they sold it to another owner.
