Headed out to Colorado on the 13th, staying in Estes Park, obviously going to do a lot of hiking in the RMNP, looking for other things to do or places to eat, etc from those that have been before.
Thanks. 6/2/2008 5:42:00 PM |

Kind of depends if you have a car or not. With a car, you could be in Denver in an hour or Boulder in 30 minutes.
If you like candy, there is a fudge shop on every corner. If you like to fish, you could get a 5 day license, rod, reel, tackle for less than 100 bucks-there are streams everywhere. That area has amazing fishing. http://www.fishexplorer.com is CO's fishing site-they have daily updates on all the lakes. There are mountain bike rental places and just about anything you could possibly want to do outdoors is found there.
The elk will be coming down from the Mountains any day, if they haven't already. They will literally walk the streets day and night. Estes Park is a quiet, seasonal town, more of a retirement-type area. Oh, if you ride motorcycles, you can rent one there too and head up to the mountains. 6/2/2008 5:56:45 PM |

Rocky Mtn. park is very crowded. But all you have to do to escape 95% of the people is get a 'backcountry' campsite. Most of them take about an hour to walk to. You have to register for a spot and it's a good idea to do it ahead of time because even the backcountry sites fill up real quick.
There are a lot of good hikes to waterfalls and stuff in the park. Of course the shorter the hike, the more crowded it will be. 6/2/2008 6:32:12 PM |
