I went on a run on the west loop of the lake johnson trail looking for good fishing spots (I just moved into wildwoods). I found a few good spots but does anyone go there to fish often?

you stand right in that damn water and fish, that shit is fun and productive i used it in spurts to take out my frustrations of not catching anything on the main shores


its cool and shaded, the dam water spills in so the fish have good oxygen levels and food

its great

I always laugh at the people fishing off the bridge next to avent ferry. How do they expect to catch anything with a constant vibration from strollers/dogs/runners/ cars going by right next to them.

You can keep the bass if they're over 14", I think. I'm not sure about catfish length, though.

PS: $8 an hour for the motorboats and $40 flat fee for the day.

^when i got a paddleboat we only paid the half-hour price and i was like "how are we gonna know when our half hour is up?" and the dude was like, "it doesnt matter...as long as you're not out there for over an hour don't worry about it."

moral of the story: don't bother paying for an hour's worth of boating when you can get a half an hour for free.

i've caught plenty of fish off the bridge at lake johnson. lots of crappie and a 2 pound bass.

but the boat is much better. we get there early in the mornings as soon as they open and head out until around lunch.

^Ever go to the non-popular side of the lake under the road bridge? I've never seen anyone bankfishing or even on a boat on that side before.

That side is pretty shallow. I'd imagine the bass will retreat to the deeper areas as the water warms up. You might see them coming up into the shallows as it cools down around sunset, but I'd still think the banks that border the deeper areas would be better fishing.

^The eastern (Wildwoods) half of the lake is a lot less traveled than the western (marina, dam) half.

i've fished pretty much that whole lake..

In the early morning I catch most of my bass near the bank in the coves and points scattered around the perimeter...i will run a frog or lizard on the bank, let it slowly fall into the water, and reel it in slow...

as the day wears on and it gets hotter, i'll go deeper with a worm or crankbait

^ that sounds pretty good, I might try that tommorrow morning. I imagine you can't do that in the evening because it never really cools down enough. As far as a boat goes, I don't have anything small enough that wouldn't be overkill or just a waste of gas. Thanks for the heads up. I may even try the bridge when it cools off near winter time. and it's not so damn crowded out there.

^^You cant take your own boat in Lake Johnson. You have to rent their jon boats with either paddles or a trolling motor.
