i've posted this on CL a few times, asking for $500 obo, had a few people show interest for $200-250 but they've all bailed. i've got one person who is ready to buy it for $150, i'm wondering if i should hold out for more. i'm in no particular hurry to sell, but at this point i'm not sure i'll get more than this even if i do wait. what do y'all think?

"I have this great queen size platform bed but there is a stain on the finish so I got it replaced. The MSRP is $879 and I am looking for $500 or best offer. I've had it less than a year with almost no use and it is in great condition other than the stain. It is a Lifestyle Solutions Zurich Platform Bed (http://cymaxstores.com/Common/Product/Product.aspx?ID=6912) - here are the product details:

Characterized by simple lines and minimal detail, the Zurich Platform Bed has a Zen-like quality. The boxed-in feature for mattress enhances its practicality and functionality.

Features:
* Premium construction using composite woods and select veneers.
* Attractive rich satin Cappuccino finish.
* Bed comes with complete platform bed frame, rails, 14 sturdy slat pack, center support rail and legs.
* Box spring not required.
* 14" from floor to platform surface.
* Minor assembly is required.
* Queen Dimensions: 31.5" H x 90.8" L x 72.2" W

SELLER NOTES (PLEASE READ):
There is a stain on the finish of the headboard, about a foot long. A new coat of finish or even a nice blanket covering should fix that pretty easily. The original instructions are included. The headboard, footboard and sides are included. The slats and center rail, as well as the assorted screws and other hardware ARE NOT INCLUDED and no longer available. Those pieces are listed on the instructions, so a quick trip to your favorite hardware store ought to take care of that for pretty cheaply.

IMO you're asking far too much for a bed for which you aren't including a large majority of the crucial parts for functionality. Honestly, without the center slats & screws/bolts I'd take the $200 and run like hell. It might be worth more, but going through the hassle of trying to find new bolts/screws & then having to make do so things don't fit quite right with your bed frame... well frankly that would suck. Americans are lazy. If you were to go through the leg work to find the extra stuff needed for it to function, then you might be able to get closer to your asking price, but it probably won't be worth your time & extra $ cost.
If you aren't in a hurry to sell it, list it for $300 OBO and re-list every couple of days for a week or two. You might get more bites that way. Also, the picture you took of the stain doesn't give an easy perspective of where it is actually located. If it is something that could easily be made more inconspicuous, take a better picture showing where it is & comment on how it could be masked easily.
Also, I wouldn't say that you got it replaced BECAUSE OF the stain. Take the picture & let it speak for itself-- but don't lead in with the negativity toward the stain.

I would definately take the 150 and run. I wouldn't pay even than that for a defective piece of furniture with no hardware.

if you get $200 i'd be pretty surprised - i think you could maybe get $300 if you took the work to get the hardware for the center piece, center piece and slats for it

Too much negotiation room on Craigslist can be worse rather than better. Listed a car at $2250, no offers (hoping to get $1800). Waited a week, listed at $2000. Got $2000 cash in hand within a matter of hours (along with about 10 other offers). People were searching at $2000 and weren't seeing the other posting.

1) depending on the boards, OBO posts are flagged off, because users consider them auctions, which are expressly prohibited in the TOS
2) 'every couple of days' is considered overposting (not in the TOS, but if you go to the flag help forum, you can find out what's considered overposting for each category), and is subject to being flagged off for this reason.

qfred: take 150 and be happy you have that. people aren't looking to buy a used bed they have to invest a lot of time into. they want something they can move in, set up, and have ready for use.

If you have a saw it might be worth your while to cut some slats and piece together the missing hardware from the bolt bins at Lowes. You'd be looking at maybe $25 worth of materials, but it would open up your bed to tons of buyers who are not even considering it right now.
