I have a project where I need to create a virtual scene and basically have a camera pan through the environment I create.

I need to have some type of car garage or store...and in front of it, have an old jalopy of a car, and also have a nice(r) car.

I'd use some type of video capture software to record the screen or something like that.

I'll then take this video, and edit it in an external editor, cutting/splicing the video, adding music, voice, etc.

I'm thinking of using the Sims, or something similar.

Anyone have a suggestion? Possibly something free?

are you even familiar with any 3d rendering?

nah, that's why I'm thinking that using something "user friendly" like a game would be my best bet.

Search for "Machinima". Ton's of free stuff to do this kind of stuff and it's pretty fun. Red vs. Blue is probably one of the bigger names that started out.
