Between Fresh Market and Whole Foods, you'll pretty much be able to find anything you want.

the Asian markets can be good sometimes, but you have to catch them on the right day....sometimes their fish is less than desireable

I've gotten bad seafood from Whole Foods before, Harris Teeter can be okay, but I love Grand Asian Market.

^^ Yeah, I think its called Earps seafood. They have very fresh and cheap fish and shrimp and all that jazz. its the only place my mom will go to get fresh jumbo shrimp.

Screw Harris Teeter. Go to Earp's or drive to the coast.

Earp's FTW. That place is great.

Grand Asia's fish can be questionable. Try to go on the day when they receive their shipment. Also, make sure you know what a fresh fish should look like (clear eyes, etc) if you go to buy fish there. I've seen them trying to pass off some nasty fish as edible before.

If you need octopus Grand Asia usually has some. They also have fresh turtles too

Honestly, as pathetic as it sounds, I've found that K-Mart in Garner on 401 actually has a decent selection. Not exactly sure what you need, but has a decent sundry.

They have pretty good stuff, but their selection and quantity on hand is usually pretty limited

For good fish, scallops, shrimp, octopus, clams, etc. at a good price I go to:
Grand Asia Market
1253 Buck Jones Rd
Raleigh, NC 27606 Map
(It's really in Cary, as everyone else said.)

For premium cuts of meat I go to Whole Foods or Fresh Market.

And on the weekends there are some folks at the Lake Gaston Flea Market that sell seafood out of a truck.

Grand Asian, or the one that's on Chatham (don't know the name). They may be strictly commercial though.

I want to try buying/preparing my own sashimi. Would any of these places, and which of them, have sashimi grade fish?

heh, I wouldn't trust any of it unless it says sashimi grade. As far as I know, the only places I've seen sashimi grade anything have been Harris Teeter and Whole Foods.

They have the best selection on Mondays around 10, and first thing saturday morning. Plus, it's owned by a state alum.

Capital seafood has it frozen, $4/pound. I dunno who has it fresh around here, having had both, I really cant tell much of a difference.
