Anyone done it? Know what the program is about, etc? I'm kind of interested in it, have been for the past 5/so years. What department would this be under at State?

I have a good friend studying this at Clemson and they apparently have a very respectable program. At NCSU, you will most likely find planning under the Master's in Public Administration. It is probably a concentration. NCSU MPA website: http://www.chass.ncsu.edu/pa/

^ I love that city. It's one of my families favorite vacation spots and we usually stay at the Charleston Place. We were actually down there for a week last month after graduation.
Thanks everyone for the advice! This is something I've been toying with for the past couple of years as I don't think I want to do Engineering my entire life. 6/18/2008 1:40:19 AM |

closest planning department is at UNC
For general managment, look at an MPA. No one at NC State specializes in urban planning methods. 6/21/2008 6:56:18 PM |

There's an agreement between NCSU and UNC that lets you get a master's of City & Regional Planning (from UNC) and a master's of Landscape Architecture (from the NCSU COD). IMO, you should have a little bit of a design background to be a good planner.
There's also an all-online 12 or 15 credit hour planning certificate program at Ohio State (or maybe Ohio). I've been thinking about doing it. It takes a year and most of it will transfer to UNC.
There's also talk of UNC-Charlotte starting a masters of planning program in conjunction with their architecture school. But idk when/ if that will happen.
