Details: I couldn't open a dvd drive, so I changed the drive letter and it allowed me to open the drive. It then instantly went bluescreen. I restarted and now it will only come on for about 10 seconds and then shutoff. Everything seems to be powering on.
The drive and the not coming on issue could be completely coincidental. But I don't know.
My first thought is power supply, but I don't have an extra one laying around to test it. I also thought maybe it was overheated so I left it off for several hours and nothing (I haven't had any problems with heat in the past).
It's also really dusty in the case.
My next move is to reseat everything and clean out the case. Any ideas of what it may be? My guess is that it's either the power supply, mobo, or processor. Of course, I don't have any of that stuff laying around to test it with. 6/12/2008 10:58:13 PM |

probably isn't it in your case, but too much heat buildup on the proc can cause what you're describing.
clean out the dust. unplug the dvd drive and any other non essential hardware (also only leave 1 stick of ram in). try to boot 6/12/2008 11:30:22 PM |

ok, so i replaced the power supply back when i originally posted this and everything seemed to work fine. As in it booted right up.
The other day, it starts doing it again. I had just installed xp64 on a raptor, which I had hooked up originally. When I replaced the ps, I didn't hook up the raptor because i wasn't really using it and i didn't just want it powered up if i wasn't putting it to use.
So, I thought the raptor was causing the problem because when I unhooked it, the box booted fine. http:///message_topic.aspx?topic=536632
Anyhow, it did the same thing today with the raptor unhooked. And I leave my pc on for long periods of time, so it's hard to say how long this has really been going on. I've gotten it to boot a few times with and with out the raptor hooked up. So, that's not the problem.
My guess is that something may be shorting...?
