I somehow saved a word document file I sent to myself as a .docx and the computer I'm on now doesnt recognize it. Anybody know a way for me to retrieve it on this computer? I really need to work on this document asap.

you saved it as a word 2007 format - which is not backwards compatible with previous versions of word - save it as a word 97-2003 .doc file and it'll work

or

^ doesnt convert from docx, and for all the others they either won't install without an error or it's going to take 24 hours for a conversion I've searched on google but they all have some lame catch or they don't work. Oh well I guess I'll have to re-write the damn thing over again unless somebody can find a converter thats fast and can do .docx to doc properly.

i thought MS offered a plugin so you could read files in the newer format with the old version?

anyways, if I were you I'd go to Word options and under save, change it to save in the 97-2003 format by default in the future unless there's some reason you need the new version

Just email it to a friend that has Office '07, have them save it as a 97-03 compatible file and send it back to you.
