i knew it
the NBA is irrelevant
i feel bad for the 10 white, honest players in the league, the rest of those hoodlums will be below the waves with the sinking ship without my pity

You know, if they were fixing a game 7, it probably would have been simpler to not allow the Lakers to blow a 24 point lead in Game 4.......

It's not going 7, it's going 6, the NBA just wanted the Celtics to win at home.
We're all throwing these conspiracy theories, and the sad thing is, they're not too far-fetched to believe them. 6/16/2008 9:58:28 AM |

^yeah seriously. Also Bavetta wasn't doing the lakers any favors last night. If anything he was ready to get to his summer vacation... 6/16/2008 10:43:27 AM |

i was thinking about this last night during the game
i thought about it during the NHL cup that the hurricanes won, too.
I just get the feeling that the players slack off a bit to win it all at home.
I dont know the sports well enough to blame the refs, but i can see it being an unsaid desire to win the finals at home, as opposed to on the road.
I never get this feeling in the NFL or NCAAMBBALL...
maybe that's why im a bigger fan of those. 6/16/2008 12:03:49 PM |

Maybe because it's just about impossible to do it in those sports?6/16/2008 12:19:39 PM |

true
so does that mean that these playoff setups are inherently flawed? 6/16/2008 12:22:13 PM |

not slacking
but convenient foul trouble seemed to keep garnet out of it early. 6/16/2008 3:51:47 PM |

you're nuts if you think that garnett is throwing a game to win it at home, provided that you think the nba is a legit league, which is also kindof nuts. 6/16/2008 4:02:15 PM |

Not necessarily. After Boston won the first two they worked themselves into a hole. If the Lakers won the next three then it would be too obvious. So the Lakers had to drop one of their three home games. Might as well make them drop the game that would be "the biggest comeback in playoff history" - attract a bit more ratings.
So yeah, Lakers win the next game to take the series to 7.

Yeah, and those are lose one and you're done playoffs.

In pro sports? Definitely. Will the NBA get more revenue if one team blows out the other in the first 4 games, or if the series drags out to 7 games each time? I'd like to think that in college sports that have series the players would want to assure a victory to move on the the next round / win, but that hope is a little quelled knowing NCSU's history.6/16/2008 6:53:02 PM |
