For the love of God, please stop writing and saying "with regards [sic] to" or "in regards [sic] to"--it's fucking wrong! Use "with regard to" and "in regard to," if you must. You may use "as regards," though.

But I don't recommend using "regarding," "with regard to," or "in regard to." The Simon & Schuster Handbook for Writers lists these elements as "too stiff or wordy"--use "about, concerning, or for."

This is hooksaw's kryptonite, people. Please don't make me suffer anymore.

you don't have to write [sic] after each grammatical error, if the point of writing them is to point out the errors.

also learn the difference between "i.e." and "e.g."

i.e. = "id est" - "that is" (I remember this by saying "i.e." are the starting letters for "it is" [sic] - mostly i remember this one by remembering the other one much more accurately)
e.g. = "exempli gratia" - "for example" (I remember this by saying "e.g." are the starting letters for "examples are great" or something similar)

Let me clarify: They leave my class knowing the rules, and I enforce them in the classroom. But in the real world, unless the meaning is obscured, I could care less ([sic!!!]).

^^^ Most recently I was a TA at State. I'm taking the summer off, though.

I was the editor of my junior college newspaper; I think that's when I really started to enjoy editing. I'm like BASF--I don't make the text, I make it better. Some people like the beauty of the written (and spoken) word; I like the nuts and bolts of the written word.
