We're moving out of our house and we've applied to a couple houses, but our present rental company has given us bad references, causing us to not get the house (we unknowingly moved into a retirement community, and the HOA didn't like us very much, telling every complaint to our rental company)

My question is on a rental application, for prior address if I put something different than where I am at now, like my parents house, would they have anyway of knowing otherwise?

it depends on how big the property management company is and how deep they dig into your background check. if they do a full background check, all of your former addresses will be on there and they will know you are lying. if they just call references, then you can probably get away with it

i dont think they would see it as you lying about something...you could just say you wanted to put a permanent address on there. thats understandable, IMO.
