My previous job ended at the beginning of June because the current owner of the business decided to close the business for various reasons. Well, I got my last paycheck on June 5 and cashed it on June 6 (I needed some cash and it was a small check, so I didn't deposit into my bank account). Today, I got a copy of the check in the mail saying it had been returned because my boss had decided to freeze the bank account since the business is closing. Apparently he didn't wait for my check to go through before freezing the account. I checked my checking account and no fees have been withdrawn. Should I expect these fees to be withdrawn soon or is it different since I got the check cashed? I've never had a check returned, so I have no idea what to expect.

What bank did you cash it at? If it was your bank they are gonna probably pull the money back out of your acct to cover the check.

For future reference if your company is closing you might want to cash the last check at THEIR bank if there is one within driving distance.

I just talked to my bank and they pulled the money from my account. For some reason, it's just showing up today because I checked my account earlier and it wasn't on there. I should have cashed it at their bank, but at the time I was under the impression that their accounts were not going to be closed until August because that's when the business 'officially' closes.

it wouldn't matter where you cash or deposit the check for previous posts' reference - all that would happen if you cash it somewhere you don't have an account is you get to pay a $5 fee

and yeah, getting cash this time around might be a good iddea

[Edited on June 21, 2008 at 11:06 AM. Reason : $5 fee]

If you cash it at the bank it is drawn on it cannot bounce because it goes through immediately...........and you walk out with the cash.
