I haven't drank so much as a drop of the Apple Kool-Aid yet (other than being interested and likely to purchase some stock in the company), but this thing looks awesome.
3g internet connectivity, GPS, and a $199 price, with sleek design to boot?

i already use AT&T
unfortunately, i just got a new phone (out of necessity) only a few months ago
i just tried to open AT&T's website to see if they listed anything about the details, but it was down for maintainance. 6/22/2008 2:31:51 AM |

The catch will be that unless you are 100% sold on the design of the phone and don't just want it as a cool gadget, you'll kind of get bored with the thing after a while and get mad that you don't have any tactile response from the buttons you're hitting like you did with your old phone.
I suppose the other issue may be the cost to replace/repair it if you drop it or damage it. :/ 6/22/2008 2:45:54 AM |

yeah, i also think the absence of pushbuttons could be annoying.
it isn't the iPhone itself that I'm sold on--it's the combination phone/music player/high-speedish internet/GPS navigation/price
if something comparable came along, i'd be interested in that, too. 6/22/2008 2:59:11 AM |

without the space, the blackberry kinda fails when it comes to being an mp3 player. any of the blackberries i've seen have been clunkier in size, too. the blackberry has a much nicer email interface,, though. 6/22/2008 3:34:58 AM |

i can pretty much take or leave the MP3 player part...it's nice, i guess, but whatever. i have an MP3 player that I use when working out (much smaller and lighter than any phone).
does Blackberry have an integrated GPS, and can you get one for $199? 6/22/2008 3:38:52 AM |

What's with all the button love? I actually hate those microscopic buttons. Tactile feedback is overrated, and I don't even have fat fingers. 6/22/2008 4:18:47 AM |

Yes you can get a blackberry for $129ish
I want the iphone, but $70+ a month will not work for me...not for like 450 minutes. Especially when the 3G doesn't work in my area.

anything comparable or much better costs double and doesn't have apple nerds writing free apps for it.6/22/2008 9:00:01 AM |

You have to calculate the total cost over 2 or 3 years (whatever you get trapped into). The fact that you're using AT&T will help in the transition, but we're talking about saving $1000 dollars 6/22/2008 11:58:02 AM |

Josh - I love my 1st gen
It's the web browsing experience that the iPhone dominates all phones at. That's what I use 90% of the phone for. It's been a year and there still isn't a comparable product.
You'll probably have to pay more than $199 since you just started a new contract 6/22/2008 12:06:27 PM |

8^ you can add a memory stick. sure you won't get 16 gb of storage, but he's not looking for that anyways. And the new blackberry's are just as small as the iPhone, it's time you look at them before shitting on them (for all of you semantics freaks, I'm not stating that they are the exact same size, just that they are pretty close).
7^ yes it has gps, and depending on your carrier on phone choice, with a 2-yr contract, I've seen BB's range from $99 to $250. Just shop around and ask carriers to price match.
6^it's much easier to thumb on them than on the on-screen keyboard (iPhone), according to the large majority of people.
2^yes the iPhone is better for web browsing and as a mp3 player, but that's about it.
^you means iPhone apps are gay? that's what I thought
To me it comes down to what you want the smart phone for. Do you just want to look like a rich kid/adult-kid, have a phone with a bunch of gadgets and apps that really don't serve a purpose (I compare the iPhone and its apps to Facebook apps, uselesss, gay, stupid), and IMO look less professional?
Or do you want a phone for E-mail and business reasons, that is professional and will keep you professional without all of those stupid apps.
From what I've seen, most BB users act/look more professional than iPhone users (for you semantic freaks, I'm not saying all and this is just what I have seen), and their phone helps them in that.

^^virutally everything you've said is just wrong. i really don't feel like copying and pasting and responding to every single thing..but you're just wrong.
have you owned both or are you just reading ppl bitching online? i went from treo to iphone to blackberry and i'm probably going back to an iphone. i type about at half speed on the blackberry because you have to actually push buttons down instead of just tapping in the right direction and it picking it up. not to mention spell check f'ing blows on the blackberry. sure it works, but to fix a word you have to scroll back over to it, click on it, click the right word then scroll back over and start typing again.
anyways, the touchscreen on every other phone i've used sucks..but not on the iphone. the spell check makes it so easy to use i can't even explain it... just hit the right number of characters in a word and it figures out what you're typing even if you're no where near the right word
and yes, iphone apps are going to be awesome, you can hate it all you want but it's true. 6/22/2008 1:02:38 PM |

do what? i carry both, and the iphone is by far a more user friendly phone. hell i know a 3 year old who can listen to music and make calls on it. thats about as user friendly as it gets.

I was about to jump on the iphone bandwagon and get one when the 3g's come out, but now that I've had my Ipod touch for a few months, the iphone allure doesn't seem to impress me anymore. In fact, I've been more annoyed with the Ipod touch than impressed. 6/23/2008 1:57:05 AM |
