yes I know, "zomg n00b build your own computer"

However, I'd rather not have to deal with a lot of parts being sent to Korea (where I'll be) and then having to hope nothing arrived DOA otherwise having to send it back.

Looking for something around the 1500 range.

i'd imagine you'll be able to get something locally that will be more cost effective then something sent to the US only to have it shipped back to asia

dell or hp (not the blackbird, just some of their regular computers when properly outfitted) will probably do you just fine for the 1500 range

although i'm sure if you ask nicely someone here will probably build you a solid machine for 1500 that'll surpass what you could get from either of those brands, the only good reason to choose them would be the potential warranty

yo... give me that $ and I'll build you whatever you want... I'll only charge 10% on top too ...

But yeah, I would just buy a nicer hp(no dell) for around $700... I'm cheap I guess... Then add a new graphics card... Like a Radeon HD4850... $199.

I'll be in the shitty part of Korea, not the good part (ie Seoul) so buying there is not that great of an option.

Any opinion on the Dell XPS systems?

I live in Japan and I've found that it's pretty easy to live off the land in terms of electronics here. It should be the same way in Korea.

Throw in another gig of ram, upgrade the video card and you are good to go. If you have access to windows 64-bit make that 2 more gigs of ram.
