so I totally fucked up some cookin,and the apt got all smokey with the smoke alarm goin off.

did my dog rush outside? no. did he head to either door? no.

what did he do? ran to the bedroom and hid at the foot of the bed b/n there and the wall.


now I'm so not convinced he'd survive a fire.

maybe it was the fire alarm that scares the shit out of him, because I set the fire alarm off again and he went running.

(set the alarm off again b/c I put the batteries back in it).

so maybe it was that rather than the smoke that makes him a wuss.

Well, dogs do go try to hide under shit if stuff goes down. You ever have a big sissy of a dog try to run over and hide by you in a thunder storm? He was just going somewhere safe feeling (a dark, enclosed space).

Dogs also try to find similar spaces when they feel like they're going to die, it's some natural protective instinct I guess.

I don't think dogs like smoke at all, or the smell of burning at all. I think it triggers the same fear response. My parents have two tiny little dachsunds (they're like 8 pounds each) and when they turned the electric heat on for the first time last fall the dogs flipped the hell out and tried to hide just like the dog in the OP did. No smoke was coming out of the vents or anything, it just kind of smells a little burny for a little while.

also, can't get the dog to bark. at all. in fact, I've never heard him bark. my dad swears up and down that he's seen and heard the barking, but I've not.

maybe it means my dog is psycho?


I even played sounds of dogs barking and howling and stuff, he got all interested and ran to the door (where the speaker was) but didn't bark or whimper or anything.

he does snore though.
