My phone broke and won't charge very well anymore. I have the 6$ a month insurance so I can get my phone replaced for 50$. Do they let you pay more and upgrade at the same time? 6/24/2008 5:47:28 AM |

take it to sprint and have them look at it. if its the phone, you may not have to pay $50. it just may be the battery (if it doesnt hold charge).
if its something they can blame on you, then its $50 (which still is not a bad deal depending on phone).
they'll upgrade if your phone is not on the market anymore. or if you've had the same phone for either 1 year or 2 years. i forgot the exact $$ you get knocked off.

long answer=
it's 75/150 but that rebate doesn't have much to do with the TEP (insurance plan).
They'll only upgrade your phone if Asurion no longer carries a refurbished replacement of your phone. The Treo 650 has been off the market for months and months per say, but I was still going to have to shell out 55 bones to get a replacement. This obviously wasn't worth it to me since a new LCD was 30 dollars on ebay.
Sometimes people have had luck getting upgrades through sprint tho. Especially if you take it to a repair center and it's 100% not your fault for breaking. Depending on the employee you could walk out with something comparable that they have in stock. It just all depends. Definitely heed baonest's advice and take it in before calling the insurance co. I canceled my TEP and then found out there was a 75% chance sprint would have fixed it w/o the deductible had i of taken the time to hit up an auth. center.
short answer =
No, you cannot put the value of your replacement phone toward the purchase of another model from the sprint store.
You can however, get the replacement and put it up on ebay if it still has a high resell value and will be worth it to you after the deductable.

They will only replace it for free if you have had it less than a year. Sprint only warranties their phones for a year, so if it is older you will have to pay the $50 regardless. That is, of course, unless you have connections up there.6/24/2008 10:50:59 AM |

^oh, yeah you're right, i forgot about that.
but i thought that they did something along the lines of if they can put the blame on the actual phone, like internal or something, then they would replace it without paying. i dont remember.
but thats the good thing about insurance. 6/24/2008 11:00:56 AM |

Best thing to do is get the insurance replacement phone and do not even activate it, just sell it on craigslist or ebay (for top dollar since its brand new). Then put that $$ down on the phone you want.
I have done this eleventy billion times. 6/24/2008 1:24:45 PM |

^^^ yeah, if it is something wrong with the phone and it is within the year, they will replace it for free. If it is outside the year, you have to use insurance or just buy a new phone.
I worked at Sprint PCS on Glenwood for 2 years when I was in college. We used to keep a stock of pre-owned phones and refurbished phones for when we had to do warranty swaps. I hardly ever looked at if a phone was under warranty or not, just because it was a lot easier to just switch out the phone than have to deal with an angry customer. A lot has changed since then though. The customer service in the Sprint stores around here BLOWS, and I don't even think they carry pre-owned phones anymore.
