Again with 1998-1999? Hasn't that issue been flogged to death?

What form of entertainment? How do you define golden era? Popularity of the medium? If you're referring to the theater experience, I'd say the golden era was before people had TVs, so they pretty much had to go to a movie to get entertainment. Nowadays I just wait for the DVD because it's much cheaper.
As far as the actual year? It's probably different for everyone. It's the last year you still had that childlike view of entertainment. The year before you get jaded on it. The year that is far enough in the past for nostalgia to set in. For me it's probably in the 80s. For you it's probably in the 90s. 6/25/2008 9:41:43 AM |

certainly not at any point after 2000. im sick of having stupid films like transformers, indiana jones, the hulk, etc being shoved down my throat. I can't go anywhere without hearing or seeing some advertisement about the movie and how some douche bag gives it "two thumbs up". sometimes i think they spend more money on the marketing than they do the filming. television sucks too. i dont know of a single sitcom or reality show worth watching nor any of those stupid singing, dancing, or talent competitions.

I'm actually going to go with Stewby on this one.

I dont consider the office to be a sitcom but i love it. its always sunny in philadelphia is really funny too. I was just kinda talking about all of that shit like american idol, and dancing with the stars, grey's anatomy, etc. I just hate seeing all the product placement stuff that goes on in movies and shows. Obviously there's still good entertainment out there, maybe it just takes a little more searching around and recognizing when someone is trying to make something genuine, or just sell you some more bullshit. 6/25/2008 11:14:30 AM |

It's all a matter of delivery. Today we've got more product placement than in the past, yes, but we also don't have the stars of our showing stepping out of the shot to tell us about the smooth flavor of Lucky Strikes.
The interesting thing is that all the shows I named, which is to say most of the decent sitcoms of the past few years, are all cinematic/one-camera shows, and the show that made it possible for stuff like AD and The Office to get made was Malcolm in the Middle. Fox freaked the fuck out when there were quick cuts, live action non-sequiters, and no laugh track, but it worked and all the other networks jumped on board. ] 6/25/2008 11:24:16 AM |

Isn't Frankie Munez (sp?) from Wake Forest? Malcom in the Middle was a great show too. Personally, my favorite right now is Metalocalypse. Now that is some entertainment. 6/25/2008 11:36:58 AM |

certainly not in the 90's either. i remember every big blockbuster in the 90's having way too much publicity, and i'm sure it was that way in the 80's. that stuff will always be there and has always been there to some extent. so you can't let change your perspective on the actual entertainment value. i personally think that 1996 was the golden year with the release of Space Jam.6/25/2008 12:47:53 PM |

AndyMac hit most of them, but forgot some quality titles from 1997-1998:
Age of Empires Myth & Myth II Quake II (not as good as orig. but still pretty good) Dungeon Keeper (personally loved it) SW: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter (not as good as the others, but that online multiplayer was fucking great) X-COM Apocalypse: Last game to come out from X-Com that was fun and not complete shit. Thief: (Totally awesome game) Unreal Simcity 3000 Starsiege Tribes Railroad Tycoon II Rainbow 6

Not the best era for PC-based video games, but 91-92 was pretty bad ass for arcade and console games:
Street Fighter 2 Mortal Kombat Super Mario World Zelda - Linda to the Past Super Mario Kart Tecmo Super Bowl Wolfenstein 3D Kings Quest 6 Final Fantasy 2 Mega Man 4 Battletoads Sonic the Hedgehog X-men Arcade Game Simpsons Arcade Game Ultima VII Civilization
