What effects have you noticed from the bad economy?there are many i've noticed but one peculiar thing is less SPAMthats right, my hotmail accout which has been getting gang-banged since '98 now went 6 hours without one SPAM email, a record by far
6/26/2008 9:41:24 PM
the spammers are going to see this and re-gangbang your email. but for real, I *try* to cook more.
6/26/2008 9:42:47 PM
I've never had a problem finding a part-time job. Now, it's been almost two months. Maybe I'm getting pickier. But there seems to be a lot of hesitance among employers to hire at all right now.

Everyone Bitching
6/26/2008 9:54:44 PM
I get more emails and invites to facebook groups saying something like "DON'T BUY GAS ON _____DAY! THE GAS COMPANIES WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO LOWER PRICES!"
6/26/2008 10:08:27 PM
this thread had a chance until the correlation you decided to begin with wasbad economy relates to amount of spam
6/26/2008 10:11:14 PM
People giving less shits about their cars having dents, hence auto-body workers getting fired, hence my dad being out of a job. Also, my student loan company sent me a economic hardship forbearance letter!
6/26/2008 10:12:54 PM
speaking of spam and the economy, i found a newspaper article (from the wilmington paper) from a few weeks ago that was about a rise in the sale of spam and other "budget" foods and various items and the link b/t that and the poor economy.
6/26/2008 10:27:54 PM
I am better at taking one trip and going several places (bank, p.o., grocery store) instead of multiple trips.
6/26/2008 10:32:21 PM
^yeah same here, and if a girl or one of the fella's call and say do you want to grab a few beers in chapel hill or durham I don't normally go now.I'm not hurting for money, and I have a car with great mpg, but I have been on a new save money kick for other things as of late.
6/26/2008 10:37:45 PM
6/26/2008 10:40:25 PM
a few of my friends who work at big chain retail stores (esp. clothing) are having hours cut back and the excuse "bad economy"???i think my friends are just shitty workers
6/26/2008 10:40:34 PM

6/26/2008 10:47:28 PM

^^^^ Nah, sales do drop if the economy gets mediocre. It makes sense that they'd reduce hours in light of fewer sales.I've noticed less daytime traffic as of late with higher gas prices. Some spots that are normally congested aren't quite as bad as usual.I've also found a lack of job postings as of late. There are some out there but my area is all looking for full time workers instead of offering intern positions.[Edited on June 26, 2008 at 10:51 PM. Reason : ]

spammers will NEVER reduce their spamming because they think you're not interested. they will only increase that much moreif you're seeing a reduction, it's because Microsoft (ie, Hotmail) is getting a jump on spammers for the moment and filtering them at the edge a little better. Don't worry though. spammers will prevail in the long term... its always a losing battle for the white hats. the goal is to just staunch the flow to acceptable levels.
6/26/2008 11:08:33 PM
well people are spending less on things that spammers usually sellso who's gonna waste their time on it
6/27/2008 10:34:37 AM
Liberals thinking the way to solve the problem is by using the biggest tax increase since WWII
6/27/2008 10:35:26 AM
the lack of jobs available
6/27/2008 10:37:39 AM
gmail accurately filters them all for me anyway. If spam decreases it's only because a hijacked computer that was sending them got shut down. It happens, there will be streams of spam that slowly die one by one. It never mattered to me because I never saw them, and it didn't matter to the sender because it wasn't his/her own resources being used.
6/27/2008 10:38:33 AM
sale of microbrews is directly correlated to the market

You can get a great price on a home right now. What's so bad about that? Don't you folks like saving money?
6/27/2008 10:47:15 AM
a home that represents somebody's shattered dreamssweet deal
6/27/2008 10:48:32 AM
Suddenly my paycheck is worth a lot more because the dollar is total shit.Seriously, when I started this job two years ago, it was 125 yen to the dollar. About a month ago it was 95 yen to the dollar. Now it's 105 to the dollar. Can't say I'm complaining
6/27/2008 10:50:53 AM
^^^ I was told by someone in real estate that the price drops was stop for another year. Right now, we're in the default period and it takes 12-18 months for houses to foreclose, so wait a bit and buy someone's shattered dreams for the best price.
6/27/2008 12:27:15 PM
sodas are $1.49 at grocery stores.
6/27/2008 12:29:44 PM

^yeah buying a 300K house when you only make 30k/yr isn't a good idea
6/27/2008 12:38:46 PM
I've noticed that I've got a lot better at siphoning gas out of other people's tanks in parking lots.
6/27/2008 12:40:34 PM
is cheaper thani'm pretty sure when i was a kid, it was the other way around.
6/27/2008 12:40:54 PM
I think it's more like buying a 300k home when you make 60k, then you lose your job and can only make 30k. Still have no bidness buying that home anyways.^They have always been pretty close.[Edited on June 27, 2008 at 12:41 PM. Reason : s]

I've got no sympathy for Shananiequinta* who chose to take out a mortgage on a quarter million dollar home on a McDs salary
6/27/2008 12:41:31 PM
Some could argue that those loans shouldn't have been made available in the first place and there are some sources that claim lenders knew what they were doing in setting up people to fail so that they could profit by short-selling years later.I also just watched "Loose Change", so conspiracy theory is primed in my head.
6/27/2008 12:42:02 PM
The bitching is really getting on my nerves. And it's not just everyday people bitching. Every news story, radio report, or pretty much anything else starts or ends with "with the economy struggling ... yadda yadda"
6/27/2008 12:44:38 PM
^^A lot of the lenders did know that these people would likely default on the loans, but the borrowers still were the ones who signed the contracts. Nobody forced people to buy these houses. The lenders screwed themselves when so many loans defaulted, and caused houses to depreciate (which means that they wouldn't be able to recoup their lost money by foreclosing and re-selling). The borrowers screwed themselves by signing an ARM with a low teaser rate and deciding to let their future selves deal with how to pay for the mortgage when it reset. Sounds like everyone got what they deserved.]]
