Got a laptop from my employer recently and it has so many security settings i can't even download mozilla firefox.

anyway, i have got to download some software to pull video footage over to my computer from my video camera and I want to know how to over ride these administrative settings...

Anybody know how I might BEGIN to figure out how to over ride these settings??

Any help would be great, thanks

^Listen to him, it can be grounds for immediate termination and possibly massive headaches (depending on the nature of the work you're doings.) If they're that paranoid there's a good chance they do audits when you bring back the machine like IBM does to random samplings of its employees.

I agree. If you have a legitimate reason to install something the admin might allow it, but you'd probably want them to ok it. I blame Bonzi Buddies.

Yeah, which is a good idea. Some people don't and get fired because they didn't realize putting a pirated copy of whatever on there would get them in trouble. Not as many now that people realize the contents of the laptop will be looked at. Thing is, if she doesn't have admin rights on the machine she's probably not supposed to do that.

Not only do you risk screwing up the pc, but you risk pissing the admin off, both of which can really cause you headaches down the road, even if it dosnt lead to you being fired.

i just want to install that FLASH application so i can view some of the websites that I need to. It also has a video editing program and I want to install the driver for my video cam so I can edit some video for a class that I'm taking.

that's legit.
