My boyfriend's cat has some really humerous antics that he displays on a regular basis so I was wondering if anyone (any vet school people out there?) has any clue why he does this funny stuff.
First, as soon as we come home, he runs to the couch and uses it as his scratching post for a few moments and then runs away all excited. He had his front claws removed before we adopted him so it doesn't do any harm but it is just peculiar.
He also paws at the edge of the bed where the dog sleeps and doesn't stop until the dog growls at him.
Finally, why does he chatter at my dog when he is getting his hump on with his pillow?
Also, feel free to share anything your cat does in this thread. 7/7/2008 7:54:10 PM |

sounds like it wants to play
i feed my cat when i get home and while im upstairs changing she runs up and rolls on her back for belly rubs
then when im in bed watching tv or reading she lays on me while she bathes
if i am going downstairs she'll lead and if i stop she stops and looks back and meows at me. if she gets to the bottom before me she'll meow and come back up toward me. she'll also go down step by step with me
shes clingy and just getting cuter the older she gets
either that or shes really a dog 7/7/2008 8:25:00 PM |

my cats like to play in the tub just after I've taken a shower.
They also like to try to climb the shower curtain, drink from the toilet, use my speakers as a scratching post, and chew up the blinds.
They are definitely mischievous, but they are my cute little hairy babies. 7/7/2008 8:27:28 PM |

Toby cat has started to really like boxes. We keep a box in our floor for him to play in. Anytime there is a new box around, he's in it, even if he can't fit! 7/8/2008 12:06:20 AM |

Grits will walk by either of my parents dogs and stand on his hind legs and smack the crap out of them in the face. Here lately, when Tonka (the 110 lb. Husky) is laying down sleeping, Grits has started sniffing and rubbing on his hind legs and feet furiously! He pushes on Tonka's toes so hard that Tonka's toenails will go in his nose! Its really weird. 7/8/2008 12:12:15 AM |

^^one of my cats will do somewhat of the same thing back home. if my dog is sleeping in her basket the cat will go to her and be really affectionate, but to the point of kneading the dog and eventually poking the dog with claws.
really weird cats

My one cat does this as well. Runs over to the scratching post and scratches when I get home. She also does this when I sit on the toilet 7/8/2008 7:40:08 AM |

My cat used to do that pretty much everyday when I got home from work. I just thought he was excited to see me. He also used to paw at the end of my bed after he followed me into the bedroom.
The cat also used to play fetch, which seemed pretty strange for a cat.
Another thing he'd do when he was excited was lay down on his side and "run" along the bottoms of the couches. I guess it felt good to scratch his side, but it just looked really strange.
After giving him a catnip toy he'd do some really crazy things. One night I had some friends over and we were all just hanging out on the couches in the living room. My cat was running around like a bat out of hell, which always seemed to happen right before I wanted to go to bed. So I said something along the lines of "Man, that cat better calm down before I go to bed or I'm going to slap the shit out of him." The words had barely come out of my mouth when the cat comes flying out from behind the sofa, jumps up on the arm next to me and swats me in the face 3 or 4 times with the quickness of a ninja. By the time I realized what whas happening, he was already gone. I was so stunned I couldn't speak. Made us all lol though.7/8/2008 7:55:26 AM |

My cat loves those bandless scrunchies. She got ahold of one of my girlfriends, and thats her favorite toy now. I bought her an 18 pack and gave her maybe 3 to play with. She found the pack yesterday while I was at work, and now my house is littered with multi-colored scrunchies. 7/8/2008 11:12:01 AM |

^^ Milk ties. Ugh, there are TONS of them under the fridge that I can't reach... I know that he's gotten them under the pantry door or somewhere he can't reach when I hear pitiful mews coming from the kitchen. It's his way of calling mommy to come help
^ x 5 my cat did something similiar. We were all in the living room, just talking and a friend of mine was making fun of my cat's fatness and poking him and stuff. My cat retreats to underneath the coffee table. Said friend goes to stand up and continues to make jokes at my cats expense, when all of a sudden the kitty LEAPS out from underneath the coffee table, wraps his arms around my friend's legs, makes a funny mewling noise, bites his leg twice and flees the scene in the bat of an eyelash. It didn't hurt my friend, but it scared the shit out of him. It was HILARIOUS. 7/8/2008 4:26:48 PM |

i play hide and seek with chloe sometimes either behind corners or over the bed. she loves to play along and then she jumps out at me and bats my head before running off
i also like to rush down the stairs before her and wait for her to trot down. as she turns the corner of the stairs i am there waiting and love to scare her. she flips out but its too funny to stop. of course i grab her and give her lots of hugs and kisses while loling at her expense 7/8/2008 4:53:20 PM |

Cheeto loves to join me in the shower. He will pull back the curtain and stick his head under the spray. The weird part is that he only does this to me. When my wife is in the shower, he leaves her alone.
In addition to the shower thing, he drinks from the toilet and tries to bite his nails by sticking them through the sheer curtains. 7/9/2008 1:30:39 PM |
