I don't really care about the Clippers, but that was a dirtbag move Elton. I know you can contend for a playoff series now with a good young team, but man...

Now the Clippers will continue to be the Clippers.

The big loser here is Baron Davis

yeah, but that is history, now he's a hero
kind of like when bret came back the second time, everyone hated him but soon that was history too
a lot of players do things that seem like image tarnishing but it depends on how things work out in the end

but my question is, whats a clipper?

What Brand did was not as bad as what Boozer did.

The Clippers didn't offer Brand as much as the 76ers did, because of their owner. They were lowballing him and got what was coming.

Boozer just bailed on a team that wanted to reward him.

the Clippers would have sucked either way.. Maggette left too, and their are way too many good teams in the West. they would have struggled to make the playoffs next year even if he had stayed. and no one here would turn down that kind of cash.

the clippers are known for losing franchise players frequently.

plus it's the nba which is dying at a rapid rate...sketchy refs, sketchy/greedy players, david hitler stern running the league, etc, etc.

the clippers have been god awful for a while and i think any decent player who can go to a more competitive team would jump ship...you're always second to the lakers in LA anyway.

this IS the nba though...this happens daily...

Quote :
"Maggette, a 6-foot-6 swingman who led Los Angeles in scoring last season, should fit splendidly into Golden State coach Don Nelson's pell-mell style of play. He averaged 22.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season for the moribund Clippers, finishing slightly off his career highs in all three categories.

Maggette has been with the Clippers since 2000, longer than any other player. But Maggette and teammate Elton Brand opted out of the final years of their contracts last week, with Maggette turning down $7 million for next season.

The 28-year-old Maggette will trade places on the California coast with Baron Davis, who spurned the Warriors last week for his hometown Clippers. Davis, who was considered the Warriors' team leader until his abrupt decision to opt out of a $17 million deal for next season, accepted a smaller salary in Los Angeles for a long-term contract and the chance to team up with Brand and perhaps Maggette.

Instead, Davis looks to be stuck on another rebuilding Clippers roster. The club is expected to lose Brand as well, amid reports he has agreed to a long-term deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Warriors also made a play for the power forward, likely driving up Brand's price."

here is probably what happened. elton and baron are friends. they ran a con on the clippers to convince them to sign baron to a max deal which he would not have gotten from anybody else. once that deal was in place elton did what he probably was going to do all along and left for the east coast for the big dollar bucks. they both end up with very good contracts. if brand had really fucked baron over by leaving, baron would have made more of a fuss with the brand signing.

^^^ Worst theory ever.

I doubt Baron really cares much. He went to HS in LA, college in LA, has businesses in LA, and chills with J. Alba and her husband in LA. He is partners with her husband in some company. He is 15 minutes from Hollywood.

What a gem here, you've obviously been following the NBA for about 3-5 years. Stern did some great things for the NBA as compared to other professional sports since he began in 84, most notably, the ridiculous salaries. Oh wait, he makes them wear collard shirts to games, HE JUST VIOLATED the 8th amendment, this guy is a tyrant!

Let's see, he signed a new deal with Philly to be paid 80 over 5, that's 16M a year. So I guess technically he left 1M on the table, but he has the piece of mind knowing he's guarenteed that 16 a year for the additional 4 seasons after next season. With his unknown injury status, that is a much better deal than holding out for a 6-7% increase in income with no certainty about 09 and beyond whereas now he locks in the next additonal 4 years and undoubtedly his last big time contract. And if his injuries come back and hurt his production, he still gets paid.

if you're as talented a player as Brand, why the fuck would you spend more than 6 or 7 years with the Clippers when you've already given them some of the best years of your career and you haven't gotten shit from it? Plus they play in the west. Ask Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett if its easier to win in the East or the West

he DID some great things and then tried to take total control of the NBA and has helped contribute to the slight decline in college basketball. i mean have you heard this guy talk? he's possibly the most arrogant person in sports. i could care less about collared shirts (you said collard shirts so i assume you are a racist), but he just gives the nba another sour taste that they don't need.
