It is the second largest arena in the ACC and the tenth-largest in the NCAA. On an interesting side-note, according to The Hockey News, an unofficial reading of 134 decibels was measured during Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers. It is the loudest reading ever at an American sporting event." |

seems like that list connected successful programs with a major home court advantage way to much. Was just like anyone who was good over the past 10 years(us as the exception) was top 10. Vanderbilt should have been much higher IMO. 7/9/2008 3:32:15 PM |

there is noway the RBC Center is even in the top 25 hardest places to play.
it can be loud at times, but usually only when we play duke, unc, wake, etc... and even then it isn't that intimidating.
lots of the players will tell you nothing compares to playing in reynolds. 7/9/2008 10:12:24 PM |

^^ What a stupid statement. Where's that god damn thread where I posted quotes from the players around the ACC that said the RBC Center was tough to play at? And it wasn't just UNC and Duke players saying such.
I found the quotes.
Quote : | "James Mays, Clemson
Who has the craziest fans?
Duke man, the Cameron Crazies by far. NC State is a close second and then Maryland. I went to so many games at NC State, I can't even count how many. I also went to so many Duke and Carolina games too.
Who has the best facility?
By far it has to be NC State. The RBC Center is crazy. It's huge. When you get it packed in there, it's crazy." |
Quote : | "A.D. Vassallo, Virginia Tech
Who has the best facility?
Traditionally, I like the UNC facility, it's real nice. NC State has the premier facility. The RBC Center is pretty much brand new, so that makes it better." |
Quote : | "Jeremis Smith, Georgia Tech
Who has the best facility?
NC State. I also like the new facility at Virginia. If they had a pro [basketball] team at the RBC Center, they definitely could host games." |
Quote : | "Harvey Hale, Wake Forest
Who has the craziest fans?
NC State. Man, they just some say some tough stuff, some harsh stuff. I was like, 'Wow. Did he really say that.'" |
Quote : | "Marcus Ginyard, North Carolina
Who has the craziest fans?
NC State and obviously Duke's, they are loud and crazy. I'd think everyone's top two answers would be NC State and Duke.
Who has the best facility?
I haven't been to Virginia yet. Virginia Tech is definitely last. NC State maybe. They play in the RBC Center and that isn't bad. Boston College has a nice gym and Clemson has a nice gym. It's a toss-up. I'd have to say Boston College and I'm assuming Virginia because it is brand new." |

I've never been all too impressed with the O'Connell Center. It only seats what 12,000 and the roof is very high. They rarely sell out, even though they've had all this recent success. Also the student section isn't very large and while it is courtside running along the sidelines, they aren't behind the benches where they can make life hell for the opposing team. I still remember watching a game of theirs a few years ago where they were playing Tennessee and Gameday was there. On defense I could still hear the squeaks of the shoes. If a place is truly loud then you won't often hear that coming through the TV.7/10/2008 8:03:20 AM |

Carolina's fans are total weak sauce. Seeing all those lily bitches cry on national tv last season pretty much sealed the deal. Any one remember the Matt Doherty years when they sucked hard? (On the court, not just in the locker room) The place was dead.
No doubt we definitely have the best fans. I'd like to see the crowds at Cameron or the Smith Center if they had our basketball team.

Wisconsin 18? Haven't they had one of the best home records over the last couple seasons? 7/10/2008 9:26:46 AM |
Brass Monkey All American 13560 Posts user info edit post |
Wisconsin's arena isn't really all that. It's nearly the same size as our arena, yet seats only 17,190, some 2,532 less than the RBC Center. The Grateful Red student section is located at only one end of the court and is nowhere near the size of our student section. Bo Ryan has well coached teams. I think one advantage they do have compared to some other places is that their alum do like to clap on defense. While they aren't screaming it does add noise to the building although I've never watched a Wisconsin home game and been like "wow they seem pretty loud." A lot of other schools alumni don't make noise except at key moments. On the contrary I've heard commentators covering our games say it was deafening at times.
I think some of you don't realize how loud it can get in the RBC Center. I remember a game against FSU a few years ago that was a game during the middle of the week. They showed the decibel meter on the big screen and it had a sustained reading of 118 decibels and jumped to 121 at one point. I also remember at one point during the 2006 it got real loud b/c we were in the middle of a comeback. Prosser called a timeout. When the crowd finally settled down my ears were ringing and I had a headache.
The Kohl Center should probably be higher than a lot of schools that are ahead of it, namely the two baby blue teams (UCLA & UNC).
