Are there no working actors from the south? Seriously, has there been a show recently with worse southern accents? Esp. the angry, black girl! Every time she was on screen I started laughing at how embarrassingly stupid she sounded. All in all, some of the worst acting I have ever seen in my life on a major pilot. Seriously. This made John From Cincinnati look like Shakespeare.

Such a cool premise too....

Seemed pretty good to me. And regarding the accents, I've never seen Anna Paquin in a movie where she didn't have a southern accent so it seemed normal to me.

The only accent that bugged me was the black girl, hers was a little over the top.

was pretty good. the premise was much better than anticipated. i like the fact that they started out with vampires already established in mainstream society, rather than some retread discovery of vampires bullshit.

Okay so I was talking to a friend of mine that I work with, he used to live in Southern Alabama and has a bunch of friends in Louisiana. He's been to New Orleans a number of times and he told me that the black girl's accent/bad attitude about everything were actually not too far from the service industry workers that he has encountered down there before.

I watched this due to the fact that I was on a business trip and there was nothing else on hotel cable. I was kinda pleasantly surprised. It's just so strange, like some have already noted here, to start the show out and the whole country/world is just OK having vampires around everywhere and they've accepted it as normal. That premise contradicts every vampire show/movie made prior, and it's interesting enough that I watched it and will most likely check out ep. 2. I do agree that the southern accents were pretty bad, and the "cajun" accent was almost comical.

They weren't wings, they were just his shoulder blades sticking out a bit before he lept up on her.

The biggest change they made between the two versions was the omission of the "helper" during the blood drain/fight scene out in the parking lot. I wonder if that means they did a major rehaul of the intended storyline, or if they'll just tell about that part in a later episode.

For those that haven't seen the preair, in it there was a chick out in the woods watching when Sookie came out to fight the couple off of Bill. She was actually the one that used some sort of magical powers to keep the chain around the dude's neck. Bill saw her in the woods during the fight but she left right after she put the chain on the dude.
