I mean, for a moment, one could forget that the Republican party (like the Democratic Party) is composed of a variety of individuals of all races/genders/religions/and sexual preferences. It's unfortunate that the government needs to get into social issues at all (I see no reason why gay marriage and polygamy should be banned at all in a secular system). However, until the GOP manages to pull itself away from the religious right they are going to have to suffer from this stigma every time one of their members pulls something like this.
