I have some computers and crap laying around. I have them up on craigslist but I would make deals to those on tww. I do have a lot of stuff so I can probably get anything you need.

So you build computers and sell them for $profit? This something you do all the time? 7/16/2008 5:11:06 PM |

Like I said. Put the craigslist ad aside. I will help people out. I can tell you how much the parts for each of those cost if you want to know. The 2k one is a stretch but it also cost about 1900. I know not many are in the market for a computer this expensive. I didnt mention that it has a bluray/hddvd drive either. I've been building computers for friends for a long time and that one is by far the most powerful one with the most toys that I'm sure not many people even need. The ad probably doesn't it do it justice, but if you were to build a similar on dell it would probably be over 3k....A deal to those that can't build computers themselves and need something grossly overpowered. 7/17/2008 12:42:11 PM |

You really should edit that ad to mention the blu-ray drive. Those are still expensive enough that it adds value to the machine. 7/17/2008 5:16:37 PM |

^agreed
If you really want people to so some interest you better list every detail of that machine. From what I saw it couldn't be worth more than $1100, but no you've got all this other stuff you didn't mention. 7/17/2008 5:22:47 PM |

is there an example of a situation where I would reasonably need two video cards? I'm not being an ass, I've just never seen that. 7/17/2008 5:27:28 PM |

you would need two video cards if you play on a >=24 inch monitor and want to max video games out. I didn't click on the computer but I would assume he has some crappy last gen Nvidias or something... On a side note Newegg has that combo drive (blu ray/hd-dvd) for $149 shipped about every other week.... I myself will be adding one to my htpc before the end of the summer...
Good luck by the way. I added it up and those specs (inlcuding the blu ray=$1000)
Hell if anyones interested I'll build the same computer for cost and you can just bend over and let me kick you in the nuts.
You'd be better off selling a computer with a cheap dual core/memory/hardive/video card/ + the blu ray drive. People on craigslist would eat that up.

I agree, people on Craigslist love cheaper stuff (not as much as on TWW ).
But yeah itemizing everything so people think that theyre getting something fancy out of a store for a deal sells like hotcakes on there. It's exactly what I do....I tend to aim for lower end older PCs. My target crowd is usually the un-saavy computer users that are about 4 years behind on the times. 7/18/2008 11:37:21 AM |

^^^ Same reason as dual and quad core processors. More power.

I built almost this same computer for a friend last week (quad core instead of the duo) and it is insanely powerful.
But to get to the point, your computer is a good buy Good buy for 2k$ considering most people can't build a computer.
And I just tallied the part costs from newegg and got $1,660.89. But that was picking the cheapest psu (powertek), which I hope to god nobody would ever buy and the 54$ thermaltek case.
Add in shipping and assuming you bought a better case and powersupply and you built the computer a couple weeks ago when they were a bit more expensive, that easily brings the cost up to 1900$.
Anybody that doesn't think hours of work to order, put together and test a computer isn't worth 100$ is silly.
***Summary*** You should charge more 7/18/2008 3:29:33 PM |

And also on the dual Video cards
You can crossfire them so that applications see them as one huge powerful card
or
You can also have independent cards for different monitors. For example, running a full screen HD movie and other apps in one screen while playing a newer game in the other screen. 7/18/2008 3:32:36 PM |
