(Bad idea to post this in Chit Chat)
Attn TWW:
Has anyone here been to Vancouver? I'm going there in a couple weeks, and I'd like to know where a good place to stay is. Preferrably not in the ghetto (don't want the rental car broken into), and preferrably within walking distance or something to some sweet Canadian bars. Also, anyone know of cool stuff to do there in the daytime?
And while we're at it...same question, but with Seattle (though the hotel doesn't have to be close to a bar this time).
THANKS! 7/17/2008 10:43:14 PM |

yeah, i went there for an engineering conference in may. it was great...we stayed right on the water. theres a little restaurant that has supposedly good seafood (i'm vegetarian, but everyone else i ate there with loved their food) called "Lift". Theres also a really good italian place...plenty of good food everywhere. you just gotta stay close to English Bay. during the day, take one of the little ferries out to Granville Island across the bay. there are a lot of tourist attractions there...more good food, neat shopping places, and street performers.
and if you need your coffee fix, you'll be set. there's a starbucks on every street corner in vancouver. no lie. 7/17/2008 11:23:57 PM |

i go about once a week....once every two weeks at least
the city is amazing, but head north from city center a bit and you can start to get into the mountains. amazing scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities. driving north along highway 1 is very scenic and has great viewpoints. horseshoe bay is beautiful.
the vancouver aquarium is a cool place to wander around for a while. stanley park seawall is another great place to check out. new amsterdam cafe . there are quite a few all-you-can-eat sushi buffet places in town.
as for hotels, i dont have a ton of experience, but plaza 500 is pretty sweet, plus it is smack in the middle of downtown...fantastic night life choices in almost any direction 7/18/2008 8:25:09 AM |
