Lightning struck, my cable was out for a short time, cable is back on, now my HDMI ports won't work. Any idea why either of the ports won't work now?
maybe my dvi service got messed up somehow.

^^ preferably past experience on the issue before a response.
My cable company is no help
called 2 weeks ago, was told to get a new box, nothing. called again a week ago, was told to wait until I received service in that area, nothing from hdmi. called again today, supposedly sending out someone to look at it, but didn't know if anyone had had a problem with just their hdmi ports not working.

they're supposed to just bring you a new box. worst case is you drive by one of their locations and trade boxes (if you dont want to wait on TWC) 7/18/2008 2:02:58 PM |

nope, that's what I thought initially too but apparently the lightning just knocked off a line that sends the dvi signal. They said they could fix it tommorrow. 7/19/2008 3:50:03 PM |

Oh boy - if this were me, they'd be out the next day fixing it or replacing my tv.
And if they gave me any shit I would ask them why their ground rod wasn't appropriately bonded to the ground rod for my power service.
If they would still try to give me shit, I'd call the utility commision about how they aren't following the NEC. 7/19/2008 4:44:16 PM |

No, he sounds like a knowledged customer whose sticks the company to their responsibilities.
To the poster: do you have a Blu Ray or HDDVD player you can test the TV's HDMI ports with? 7/19/2008 6:35:09 PM |

i've done this. I've used two separate cable boxes. Unless the first one was fried, i'm not sure why it wouldn't work and the second one didn't either. I also don't have anything else with an hdmi port to test. TWC tech made some comment on how they had trouble with hdmi ports on some tvs with the cable boxes after a while and just gave me some component cables. The best buy guy is coming to look at it today so i'm assuming he'll have some other hdmi testing equipment.
