my friend just set a record recently via boat

took a stock 38 fountain with fishing gear had fishing poles and fish they had just caught in the boat to make it a fishing "trip", checked out of Hatteras at 5:55 am

long story short, was eating breakfast at Hatteras Village at 5:15, left the point at Cape Hatteras at 5:55 am and was at the Statue of Liberty at 12:05 pm and had lunch in NYC

According to article 410 miles at .9 mpg = around 455.56 gallons

I wanna say that model holds around 430-450 gallons, but I think this boat had the larger option tank for this trip (625 or so)

yeah 38's have a bunch of hull on them, thats a lot of glass to be pushing at 65 mph

kinda surprised they didn't use the new verado 350's, they have been getting awesome reviews and better mileage than the 300s and 275s

Fountain just set a new record with a CC fishing boat also,

at .9 mpg, this is still no Prius

yeah, well i've made it from atlantic city to raleigh in under 6 hours in an infiniti q45, so blah!

that's pretty impressive with a stock boat of that size. has there ever been any sort of "real" attempt at setting that record before this? i can't imagine so, but i dunno. seems to be more of a "hey, look what kind of range our boats can give you" marketing campaign.

I think it's pretty impressive...running a 38ft boat 65mph and still getting almost a mpg. I wouldn't mind paying that premium if we didn't have to spend so long getting offshore. NC custom builders take note...

That's pretty damn cool. Much faster than making the trip by car.

that was hardly a "fishing trip"

I believe they also had to install extra fuel tanks in all the fish boxes to make the run.

they did load gear and rods on the boat and also caught a few fish at the sea bouy, thats fair enough

iirc they installed an optional larger fuel tank 650g instead of the usual 450

when we make long runs we have a 200g bladder we stick on the front deck

Id like to see the Fountain put up against a Yellowfin or some of the other boats. They were trying to put it together at the Miami boat show but someone was scared I do believe....

fountain/mercury had a "bring your shit and race us" event a few months ago and supposedly whooped up on some folks.

I think there was a vid out of a donzi with trip 350 verados jumping so far ahead of everyone at the start he came back and circled the next closest boats and passed them again

yellowfins are nice, but you can't even gaff a fish from the bow because of that rise, looks pretty though

lots of the guys I see fishing on YFs are gaffing from midship

they are all nice boats, but after fishing on foutnains, donzis, contenders and YFs, I'd take the fountain over most any of them, not to mention factory support right here in state

Yellowfins are beautiful and I would take one over a Fountain, don't get me wrong. Really I'd take any of them, but the Fountain can run 75mph and the Yellowfin specs I could find say it would go 65mph with triple 300 4 stroke Suzukis. (36ft)

what turned me off on yellowfin was the fact that a friend of mine had a new 38 with quad 300 verados and broke it in half at beaufort inlet

this guy has been running big CCs for years too

owner of yellowfin tried to claim it was the way he loaded it on the trailer

Yellowfins are really fuel efficient. As much as I hate them, I think or next boat is going to be a center console.

haha I trash YF, but next year we're either gonna be on one of those or a fountain, anyway I think our owner is leaning towards fountain again since he spent 18 years with them and we're tired of the support (lack of) that Donzi is giving

I thought the YF ended up racing a donzi right before the KW pro tourny this year

at least thats what I heard or read on kingfish connection

^Im not sure. Yellowfin, Invincible, Fountain, and maybe Contender guys were all talking shit and supposed to race to Bimini during the boat show in some "real world" stuff. I think one guy wanted everyone to put up $50k but the others didnt want to. I dont think it ever happened. After that Reggie tried to have his deal down here but nobody paid him much attention. Fountain is undoubtedly the faster boat in dead flat seas but the other guys were saying they can outrun a Fountain in 3-5s, which is more realistic than Pamlico River speed runs.

Theres a couple yellowfins i see down in morehead almost every weekend with quads, got to be the most beautiful CC out there, the 42 is a beast. Im not a fan of Contender at all. Ive been out several times this year on one and its beat the pure snot out of me. Ill take my 21' Challenger over the 23' Contender(Open) any day of the week. Never been on the large Contenders though.

fastest fishing boat i fished is a 63' viking. we ran 48 knots for about 2 hours each way. if you want to roll out and be comfortable that is the ticket. i was crusing back from dinner through the harbor last night when Aggressor (60' B&B) came through and i could not gain on them only keep up and i was running 54mph by gps. bitch was rollin.

haha yeah my friend Tim has one of those 38' quad powered YF's, beautiful boat and moves pretty good, but seems to bow steer quite a bit in any rough water, but that might be the driver moreso than the boat... that new 42 is sick though Donzi and Fountain have promised to deliver a 42 to us next year if we want it, we'll see I guess. The lead guy for Donzi promised 30g in cash to any team which breaks the new 42 also

as for contenders, they're just a utility big CC fishing boat, nothing fancy and really the lines are pretty basic (ugly) imo

any of those boats are gonna beat you in rough water though, you want a smooth ride, go get a sporty

^ I might could arrange it, but it would be $texas to fuel our rig up and tow it down

i just watched me video. those guys should be beat like a root after riding like that for 6 hours. the 3-4's at 50+ would be a nasty ride. i would have to guess they had bean baggs for that ride.

garage fishing meet. lets do it. i can take out a 28' mako with twin 275's any day of the week.
