Anyone got any good smoothy recipes? Im trying to eat a lot more fruit so ive been making about a blender full of smoothies every day. Ive been using 1 banana and a bunch of frozen strawberries, peaches, mango, grapes, and milk. Thinking about getting some designer protien to mix in with it too. 7/22/2008 6:10:13 PM |

And vanilla protein powder has always been the best tasting protein powder to add to smoothies in my opinion (I did work at a health food store that had a smoothie bar when I was in college).
Two favorite smoothie recipes:
- milk - frozen bananas - peanut butter - chocolate protein powder
- half and half pineapple and OJ - frozen strawberries - half a frozen banana - frozen blueberries - vanilla protein

I do this one sometimes:
Some sort of fruit yogurt frozen blueberries frozen raspberries frozen cherries
If it's too thick I'll add a little milk or soy milk, depending on what's in the fridge at the time. 7/22/2008 11:15:49 PM |

I do - Frozen Strawberries Frozen Blueberrys 1 Banana Some nonfat vanilla yogurt and milk (I used to do vanilla soy milk to bump up the protein and you can't tell the difference)
And blend!
No need for ice since the berries are frozen, and the yogurt and (soy)milk are great for calcium and what not. 7/22/2008 11:38:24 PM |

I can't stand using ice or milk in a smoothie. All mine are just frozen fruit and enough juice to get it to blend. On a very rare occasion I'll throw a tiny bit of yogurt in there. Banana is key to get the texture right, and cherries, peaches and strawberries are my favorite additions. Blueberries and raspberries and such taste good, but I don't like what they do to the texture. I'm a texture freak, I guess. 7/23/2008 9:24:43 AM |

Using all frozen fruit makes the flavor a lot stronger because you won't need to add ice. I like to buy my fruit when it's on sale at the grocery store and/or when it's in season at the farmer's market. The drawbacks are that you'll have to chop it up yourself, and you'll have to add more juice to get it to blend.
*frozen bananas *frozen peaches/apples/blueberries/pineapple/strawberries (pick two) *tiny scoop of vanilla protein powder (adds a little flavor and helps texture) *pour orange juice into blender until it's almost to the top of the fruit 7/23/2008 10:49:19 AM |

yeah, using frozen fruit is best...i make an awesome bananas foster smoothie, but i don't have the recipe with me here
also, i like to use sugar-free vanilla pudding mix to thicken and add flavor (i don't care about the calories, really, but the sugar-free actually isn't as sweet as mix with sugar, so the fruit flavors are more dominant, IMO) 7/23/2008 11:35:28 AM |

The ultimate key to smoothie consitency is the ripeness of the banana. You want to peel the banana when it has over-ripened. It needs to be yellow with alot of spots on it. 7/24/2008 12:39:36 PM |

I put high fructose corn syrup, frozen yogurt, and OJ in all my smoothies. Defeats purpose of a healthy drink, but gosh darn it, they're delicious! (Much better than just plain old sugar) 7/25/2008 3:06:08 PM |
