So here in Chicago...
Chase Bank has a deal where if you sign up for a checking account with them and you have a direct deposit going in your favor you get a certain bonus in your favor. I, moving from Wachovia which is a black sheep in Chicago, landed a deal and collected my free $125 for my DD but I am wondering if it's worth it to continuously migrate your bank account to take advantage of these deals.
You read slickforums and it's like all they do is swap in and out of bank accounts. Seems like a god darn hassle, but is it worth it? 7/31/2008 1:08:33 AM |

i did this once in college when bank of america had a booth at my workplace parking lot and offered $60 to open an account. so i did, and those fuckers never paid me my money. i switched to SECU (and btw, no one-time monetary bonus would make me switch again) and swore to never do business with bank of america again. then those fuckers bought MBNA and i was had. 7/31/2008 2:02:14 AM |

I mean you answered your own question.
Yes you can get free money.
Yes it is a pain in the ass.
I guess considerations would be do you have a need to write checks or can you move your accounts around without too much trouble. I write maybe one check a month. Any other electronic payment you can guarantee will go through within 2-5 days so you will know exactly where you stand when you change banks. 7/31/2008 2:47:48 AM |

the thing i hated most about chase is they were always calling me trying to sell me some bullshit, or sign-up for something, or do a balance transfer--i probably averaged a call a week from them 7/31/2008 6:16:41 PM |

I had a CC with MBNA forever; the only credit card company that didn't give me a hassle when I went to Europe for vacation. When BoA bought them I promptly put the card in the shredder. I wouldn't spit on BoA if it was on fire. 7/31/2008 7:12:57 PM |
