Is it merged with another company now? Those used to be the bomb shelf stereos.
I never see them at the store anymore. 8/1/2008 11:03:13 PM |

They were one of the few companies that made car stereos with an input jack on the front. that shit should be standard on every model, esp now that the majority of people have mp3 players, satellite radio, or both. 8/1/2008 11:46:47 PM |

Quote : | "During the 1990s the market for Aiwa's core products, stereo HiFi systems and analogue radios, saw considerable competition, softening prices and slack demand. Aiwa became a volume producer competing on price and gradually reduced its spending on research and development of new products. When the digital revolution began in the late 1990s Aiwa was ill-equipped to provide the products that consumers desired.
As a result, the Corporation slid towards bankruptcy until it was purchased by competitor Sony Corporation. As of October 1, 2002, Aiwa ceased to be a separate company and became a wholly owned division of Sony Corporation." |

I can't think of a better company to buy Aiwa. Only the earlier Aiwa stuff is worth a damn; later shit is just that.
I have a soft spot for anything Sony. Especially ES. I even have a Mobile ES head unit that was in my Teg.
But my softest spot is vintage hi fi. I have a 1974 Marantz 2240 that I absolutely love. The back end needs a few new capacitors, but it has a beautiful sound. I'd love to find a 2275, or even maybe one of their old quadraphonic sets.
Now here's a name you probably never heard of: Sansui 8/2/2008 12:27:57 AM |
