So, my car is fucked and I need to buy a new one. I don't know how to drive a stick, but I kind of want to get one.Who wants to teach me how to drive one so I can buy one? haha
8/15/2008 8:38:43 AM
i would, but i dont know how
8/15/2008 8:39:44 AM
go to dealershipask to test drive manual car that you dont want to buy..profit
8/15/2008 8:41:17 AM
i bought my first car as a manual and didn't know how to drive one...it was a '94 probe gt, and that bastard had the shortest clutch of any straight drive i've driven since theni recommend learning on a '93+ mustang...those clutches are incredibly forgiving...it almost feels like you don't have to use it at all anywho, it's not hard...if you're new to driving a stick, you'll probably mess up the test drive car anyway, since different manuals drive differently...so you might as well just dive right in and who cares if they cringe when you stall or peel out?
8/15/2008 8:42:51 AM
Yeah see, I'd feel REALLY bad about doing that lol
8/15/2008 8:42:55 AM
I can teach you how to drive a car with a manual transmission and have one you can learn on. PM me.
8/15/2008 8:45:33 AM
^^^second on the '93 mustangand I wouldn't recommend fucking up a dealers car on a test drive[Edited on August 15, 2008 at 8:47 AM. Reason : ^]

Civics are probably one of the easiest cars to learn to use a manual transmission with. They have so little power and the clutch is so weak that it's very easy to do. The throw is also long enough and the friction point is "broad" enough that it's not that hard to figure out in short order.
8/15/2008 8:51:31 AM
I will totally teach you how to drive. I actually like teaching people how to drive sticks. I've only driven manuals... and I don't plan to ever own an automatic.
8/15/2008 8:53:27 AM
^ What kind of car would you be using to teach him with?[Edited on August 15, 2008 at 8:55 AM. Reason : to, with]
8/15/2008 8:54:35 AM
I wouldn't mind learning this new artform myself
8/15/2008 8:54:52 AM
Well I have a civic... and you are right... they are easy to drive.I learned on my parents old beamer and that I thought that was a good car to learn on as well... mainly bc if you could learn to drive a manual on that car, you can drive anything
8/15/2008 8:56:23 AM
Yeah, civics are the easiest IMO. The harder/faster the engagement of the clutch is the more difficult it is to learn on. Turbo cars are kind of weird too due to the strange throttle response.
8/15/2008 9:03:23 AM
Saab...you should offer a class tomorrow.
8/15/2008 9:04:06 AM
I totally agree with that
8/15/2008 9:10:11 AM
it doesn't take much to learn. my dad taught me on his car when i was 15. after a couple of days it becomes second nature
8/15/2008 9:16:59 AM
yea, its something I've been wanting to learn for quite some time now, and since I'm needing a new car, YEAHHHH!!!!
8/15/2008 9:19:45 AM
ActuallyI bought a stick last year without knowing how to drive it. And...I think I'll be teaching my bf how to drive one here in the near future
8/15/2008 9:22:24 AM
learning to drive a stick is best done on an old diesel truck with so much torque it's about impossible to stall.I learned on a mid 80's Ford turbo diesel. No throttle required, just slowly let out the clutch
8/15/2008 9:32:05 AM
^^ The gf teaches the bf how to drive, I have to give you props on that one.
8/15/2008 9:33:02 AM
Its so bad whenever a girl finds out I cant drive stick and they can. lol
8/15/2008 9:34:57 AM
I know how to drive a stick, if you know what I'm sayin'.
8/15/2008 9:35:51 AM
wait...aren't you a dude?
8/15/2008 9:37:25 AM
8/15/2008 9:40:01 AM
Wait, what just happened lol
8/15/2008 9:41:36 AM
8/15/2008 9:46:31 AM
just know that no matter how much time you spend with someone you won't actually learn how to do it until you are driving around on your own in a stick and don't have to worry about embarrassing yourself. and don't be afraid to roll back a little, its gonna happen. rolling back a few inches on a hill before you get going is nothing to be afraid of and eventually you will get the hang of it.
8/15/2008 10:00:25 AM
8/15/2008 10:02:11 AM
meh, fuck em thats their fault then
8/15/2008 10:03:26 AM
hah my friend yesterday told me "i hate doing it but if someones on your ass i use the e brake"lol
8/15/2008 10:06:03 AM
i don't know how to drive stick either.it eats away at my manhood every day.
8/15/2008 10:07:02 AM
if you want to learn learn on a truck ie ranger,s10,dakota, they are the easyest by far and you cant really fuck them up that bad
8/15/2008 10:09:07 AM
damn, you're only allowed one dumb idea per week.i get at least 5
8/15/2008 10:11:20 AM
8/15/2008 10:12:19 AM
the only reason why a econobox is difficult is that there is no torque at idle everything else is easy about them, clutch effort, shifter effort, etc
8/15/2008 10:12:30 AM
Oh yes, my job requires me to be relatively competant and smart.
8/15/2008 10:12:37 AM
^^ lol
8/15/2008 10:12:42 AM

8/15/2008 11:40:08 AM

8/19/2008 6:52:53 AM
ahahahhahahagood luck man. get someone on here to give you a 20 minute lesson and you'll have the hang of it, before burning out your clutch
8/19/2008 6:54:31 AM

8/19/2008 7:08:20 AM
i probably made a really bad decision in carsbut Caliber SRT 4
8/19/2008 7:14:27 AM
it'll be fast and fun for a while... i wouldn't plan on keeping it for more than its warranted though.
8/19/2008 8:07:55 AM
I'm sorry that I was out of town for this thread. My current car is a stick shift and I did not know how to drive it when I bought it. I had my heart set on a VW Golf TDI (Diesel), but I couldn't get one in an automatic. The salesman really wanted to sell me the car. He insisted that he could teach me how to drive a stick in less than an hour. (And that I wouldn't be the first person that he had to teach how to drive their car before they could take it home.) Damned if I didn't drive a brand new manual VW Golf off of the lot. And I have never regretted it.
8/19/2008 8:10:03 AM
ggdriving a stick ftw
8/19/2008 9:07:47 AM
I also have never owned a car that wasn't a manual and I will never own one that isn't. However my company truck (my daily driver) and my wife's SUV are automatics
