Searched and didn't find anything on this, sorry if it's any kind of repost.
I just got a really nice hand-me-down truck from my dad, and am looking to put a keyless entry / alarm system in it. I don't need some teenage kid with an acne problem at best buy giving me his opinion on what the 'dopest' system is. Has anyone had any good experiences with aftermarket systems? I want a REALLY clean install since I finally have a nice car worth caring about.
Thanks 8/17/2008 12:24:20 AM |

you didn't find anything because you didn't search in the garage.
I'm confused...you keep mentioning nice and truck in the same sentence...

a newish truck isnt really a hand me down.
and if it is an older one, probably isnt nice.
either way... the alarm system is up to you. you can have an acne face kid behind this computer tell you the same thing best buy will and you'll believe him.
if all you want is keyless entry, and "alarm" then you can get any old cheap alarm system.
if someone wants your truck, they'll take it and whatever is inside of it. 8/17/2008 12:30:29 AM |

just get whatever is the most expensive and has two way paging.
make damned sure they mount the antenna high up enough.
mine works through concrete. mind you i lived on the 9th floor and the parking garage was 2 levels below street. 8/17/2008 12:57:24 AM |

^ for that reason i recommend a 2-way system. that way everyone else knows and more importantly you know that something is being done to your car.

Get a chain and lock. Then these fags will really go nuts.
Lojack can help after the truck gets stolen if you care about that. 8/17/2008 10:06:19 PM |

pretty much. you can also buy a premade kit and wire it in. looks like an xm radio antenna, runs of 12v. 8/17/2008 10:34:04 PM |

Python 990, or whatever the latest version of that is. It's got two way, motion sensor capability, a really long range (like half a mile seriously), and 4 auxilary outputs. A friend of mine has it hooked up so that he can put his top up and down on his s2000 with his remote he uses for keyless. Another friend had the fog lights on his truck hooked in so he could turn them on with the press of a button. Another friend I know with the 990 is going to be hooking up his nitrous bottle opener, heater, and purge to a remote. Of course the wiring is tricky to do this. You can also hook them up to open or close a sunroof and put windows up and down.
[Edited on August 18, 2008 at 1:12 AM. Reason : the 872 is pretty similar actually I think it just has shorter range] 8/18/2008 1:10:20 AM |

That would be pretty useless unless he found a way to remotely undo the latches.8/18/2008 8:30:49 AM |
