The logical and simple nomenclature of "inner 440" and "outer 440" is sadly being tossed out the window because of a bunch of morons who can't figure out the difference between clockwise and counter clockwise.

The stretch of 40/440 on the south of town will be redesignated as strictly I-40, and 440 will now only pertain to the bell-shaped curve going up and over the city. All signs on this newly designated 440 will be strictly East/West.
This is a decent solution to a non-existent problem, IMO.
Considering the 440/40 intersection on the west side of town is a maze of exit ramps, and if you want to continue on outer 440, you must exit off it to remain on it, it's fine to claim that it's not really a true loop. It's not like Atlanta, for example, where 285 is a complete and continuous loop around the city, bisected by I-85. But anyway, I thought inner/outer were completely logical and only the morons didn't understand them. But there are a lot of morons floating around.
