I'm buying a house, and we discovered that the whirlpool tub is cracked. The seller has offered to pay for a new tub and we get to pick it out. However, I have no idea how to pick out a tub or a contractor to install it. Does anybody have any recommendations for tubs or contractors that sell/install them?

I would strongly advise against using a Big Box to install anything. They use a pool of contractors, that from personal experience, can REALLY suck. It creates a middle man, where there doesnt need to be a middle man. I'd use craigslist and look for someone who specializes in bathroom remodels, and get references.

If you don't already have a trusted plumber / plumbing contractor... Try to find one who has done work for someone you know personally.

I'll see if I can't get a couple names from my local contractor comrades though

Im in the middle of my bathtub/shower wall installation. What a friggin nightmare. The fiberglass tub/shower was set prior to the walls going up, so it had to be cut into pieces to come out. The set up has a seperate tub and walls so I could get it into the bathroom. Next time i am going to save up the 10 grand it would take to hire someone else to do it. Oh, and never hire a lowes contractor. Blue Sky does a lot of work in my neighborhood, I would assume that they do ok since they seem to get repeat business, but i have no knowledge or experience with them.
