I'm about to drive to Morehead in a couple of hours and it looks like it's about to rain. I might be swerving a little bit on that stretch of straight hwy70...

Here are my options from tirerack:

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (oe) $215 front, $230 front each and fucking expensive
Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season $166/$181
Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum Grand Touring All-Season $105/$190
Kumho Solus KH16 Grand Touring All-Season $132/$128
Firestone Firehawk GT High Performance All-Season $182/$202

Anybody got any recommendations?

nah, you'll be cool. i've been driving around on drag radials in the rain all summer.

get the kumho ecstas. very good tire for the money, and it's not worth spending the extra on anything else if this is just a regular daily driver.

$590 for Ecsta (expensive ass rear size)
$520 for Solus
$694 for Eagles

I'm about to order the Solus. Yea it's just a dd that gets flogged so I don't need anything special...but I do take a few corners at just before before breaking loose speeds. I wouldn't mind a harder compound (if they are?). I've already gone through two sets of Potenzas after 40k

REo5o is OE spec crap- gives a cush ride and low treadwear life. its a tire that helps sell cars, gives good first impressions when people test drive a car.

I like the RE050A quite a bit personally, but they won't last too long. Great steering/grip/feedback. Pretty good in wet.

I'm also a fan of the Azenis, but they're quite noisy. Great grip, not as good feedback. Will last longer, ride worse and they're worthless on any standing water, but quite good and predictable on wet pavement.

Others are not in the same class but at least the Kumhos Ecstas are fairly predictable, quiet and have good life if you don't abuse them.

I liked the re050 quite a bit more then the rt 615s. If you can afford the re050a , get them.

Next time I get tires I may get the dunlop direzza star spec 2. I'm not a tire engineer but they look identical to the bridgestoned RE01R's

RE01-R is a great tire. I had two in the front of my M3 (and Yoko AVS ES100s in the back) at CMP this weekend. The grip difference is nothing short of phenomenal. They're as close to an R comp as I can imagine a street tire getting. All this with low noise and decent feedback. They're much more expensive than the Azenis however.
