Anyone know why traffic is backed up for miles on I40 westbound around exit 300? I don't see anything about it in the traffic reports.

think there's some kind of construction going on right there at the exit

it was backed up real bad about 30-45 minutes ago

it was because of a couple of accidents- I came on from 40 and got off at lake wheeler. It took forever to get from rock quarry road to whatever the exit after that is... but it appeared that they had cleared it up by the time we were getting to the end of it

Maybe traffic is just super heavy. Labor Day weekend traffic fun.

I drove by there and took a look. A few minutes before I posted, I had gone by and there was a car broken down in the middle of the road but traffic was getting along just fine. Then I got a call from my dad saying he was right there and traffic was at a stanstill. So my brother and I went and had a look and saw 5 or 6 cars had been in collisions right where that car had been broken down earlier. I didn't see the broken down car though so I can't say for sure whether or not it played a part in the event, but it was definitely in the same spot.

people can't drive. merging, changing lanes and moving at or above the speed limit are all unknown territory for many I40 travelers near raleigh
