I'm in Australia now and no US sites like NBC will let me watch their videos since i'm not in the US. Any way to get around this without having a computer over there to proxy through or something. 9/1/2008 8:17:29 PM |

and in conjuction with https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2275 if you're using firefox
i've used it for over a year and I've had an international IP maybe once or twice, when it happens just turn it off and turn it back on again. 9/1/2008 9:59:48 PM |

hrmm interesting.. ^
first off, when running, it bogs the internet waaaaaaaaayyyyyy down. suppppppppperrr slow. is this normal?
secondly, i can't get a US identity. bahah. i keep going to google and having it redirect me to "my" country's google page. i've seen germany a few times, russia, and australia. no US in about ten tries. any way to force this? 9/1/2008 10:58:43 PM |

probably picks the closest proxy by latency. this will never ever work for video because any free proxy is going to be used by several people and leave you with like 15k max bandwidth. you need a colo'd box in the US or a shell account somewhere. rackshack used to have them cheap.

^^ Yes, it is slow. I use them for multiple characters in this Risk game I play from time to time, and certain proxies are almost unusable for how slow they are. 9/2/2008 8:51:17 AM |

Tor is not for speed, but sheer anonymity. If you still have a Unity account, NCSU's linux servers (and VCL systems) will let you tunnel. 9/2/2008 11:27:52 AM |

I can't believe this thread has made it this far without someone suggesting that he just download the shows from newsgroups or torrents.
I mean, that's the obvious solution. 9/2/2008 6:53:42 PM |

Yeah, it's normal for it to be slow as hell. Basically what it does is send your data through a bunch of relay stations all over the country, sometimes the world, giving you the spoofed location. It's good if you need a dynamically generated spoofed IP...for any number of uses . I'm not currently aware of any configuration options available that will allow you to use relays exclusively from the US.

If you have friends/family over here they can setup a VPN on their home router (if it supports it) and you can connect through that. I setup one from my little brother (he's in Russia for a year). 9/6/2008 3:47:08 PM |
