I hate to see a person out for the season. It is a part of football, and it was a fair and clean hit so to speak. I have been a pats fan since Bledsoe, and this is how Brady got his start, so maybe this is how Cassel gets his.
Sucks for any player to be in this situation. But its football, the next week is going to come regardless. I hate it as a Pats fan and football fan, but as a fan of the game, I move on.

it'd be funny (infuriatingly) if the Pats backup steps up and takes the QB position as his own making New England forget all about Brady.

Anyways, *tip* Here's to the recovery being quick. What's good for Tom Brady is good for the NFL. Ups and downs are inevitable.

He's one of the premier players in the league. Not to mention I'm sure the NFL is absolutely thrilled that one of it's marquee games has gone from Manning vs. Brady to Manning vs. Cassel.

I am not crying about losing Brady, but it is always sad when a top player for your team is out for the season. But I will get over it.
I sure as hell thought the season was down the drain when Bledsoe sent went out.
I am sure most people thought Steelers when done with Burger took the reigns.
I will still cheer for the Pats and hope for similar miracle.

brady has been looked as one of the best quarterbacks in the league if not the best. this is a big loss for the nfl in terms of interest from a market that will now focus on the red sox more and the celtics when nba season starts rather than spending money at the patriots games. 9/8/2008 11:32:56 AM |

Haha, it is ironic that the one time he isn't on the injury report, he ends up getting hurt. This reminds me of the 1st week of the 98-99 season, when Vinny Testaverde ruptured his achilles. The Jets got to the AFC Championship game the season before. With John Elway gone from the Broncos, the Jets were favorites to possibly win it all. Vinny gets hurt, and is replaced by Glenn Foley. Needless to say, the Jets were not good that year. Will Cassel be Foley, or will he be, well, Tom Brady?9/8/2008 12:46:48 PM |

^I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Foley. Cassel hasn't started a game since high school...literally. Backed up Palmer & Leinart at USC and has been a back-up to Brady in the NFL. Only 33 passes in college and 39 passes in the pros (or something like that). So what is that, like 9 passes a year in real competition over the last 8 years or so? The Pats are fucked. 9/8/2008 2:06:25 PM |

that is just plain stupid. Big stars getting hurt regardless of who you are a fan of is bad for the NFL, if you are a true fan of the league and the game you wouldn't even start to think that. This is terrible for the NFL, as a fan I hate it. If you hate Brady, you should hate that he got hurt. It was fun each week to see what defenses threw at them, they took everyones best shot. And it was fun if YOUR team was the one that could get to them. It was something to talk about, you might have hated Tom Brady, but you damn sure tuned in, and you made sure you saw the ESPN highlights from their games.9/8/2008 2:15:33 PM |

Only NE games I watched last year were the Chargers/Patriot games and the games where the Patriots came close to losing. I didn't enjoy watching a team I hate dominate people over and over.9/8/2008 4:34:16 PM |

he's still "good for the league" because he's a superstar
if you are a Colts or Chargers fan, you might be glad he's not playing, but from an NFL perspective, he makes the league more interesting...you might not like Kobe or Alex Rodriguez, but they're definitely good for the NBA and MLB

You watched those games though because of their dominance early. You watched hoping they would lose, it doesn't matter why you tune in, just that you do, to the NFL at least.9/8/2008 4:37:36 PM |

Fine, he makes the NFL money, any team going undefeated makes money. It feels to me (like someone else pointed out) that a little more parity in that division helps as well. 9/8/2008 4:44:49 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148446 Posts user info edit post |
I like the parity, but at the same time, don't you think the game next week would be 10x bigger if it was FAVRE VS. BRADY, instead of Favre vs. Cassel? Any superstar is good for the league

Achieving parity by bringing the Patriots down to the level of the other teams in their division isn't exactly ideal. All this means is more shitty football. 9/8/2008 4:52:07 PM |

Its a league of Stars
Just like Baseball and basketball
Its a team game, but Stars are what drives the league
Doesn't matter if you hate them or love them
You watch them and talk about them
and thats all the League cares about
Its much better to be hated than not cared about at all 9/8/2008 6:26:09 PM |

as a steelers fan, it just weeds the patriots out, and thats fine...its not like if we go further than the patriots that its a fluke just because he's out...shit happens, every team gets a star hurt at some point, its just their turn. 9/8/2008 6:34:38 PM |
