So far i'm liking it. I know the majority of you hate iTunes...so keep the trolling to yourself.

The Genius Bar seems like its taking a bit of Pandora which is a great thing.

i'd guess it's more like last.fm than pandora, but either way, it's an interesting feature, looking forward to trying it.

so far itunes is crashing on my though. something about can't sync to some database

If done right, the Genius Bar has the potential to be much better than Pandora or Last.fm because it has a more concrete base and library to draw from.

yeah, except main difference is that with Pandora or last.fm, you get to actually listen to the playlists that it creates.
with iTunes Genius Bar, it's just giving you a list of shit to buy

having (more) ads in my music player is not what I'm looking for, sorry. i guess you don't run adblock-like programs in your browser either, do you? i mean they just want to make money too, right?

and please with the profit bullshit...do you really think apple is struggling to turn a profit?

Then don't use their product.

There are plenty of other music players.

Do you think iTunes just evolves on its own with every new release? Why does it matter how much profit Apple is making? Somehow, if they make enough money, they should just do stuff for free from then on?

actually, yes...it is a wonderful idea. Last i checked Apple isn't non-profit. AND no one is holding a gun to my head making me buy anything...the iTunes library is so extensive that if this makes it easier for me to get to the items i want...then its a good addition.

haha...I really hope that some of you aren't business students or doing anything business related. Sounds like you want to put a cap on how much profit a company can make.

So where are the itunes links? when i play a song, click genius, it just makes a playlist of similar stuff out of my own library.

It works ok. Not bad.

^sounds like its a good thing haha...thats how i would ideally like to use genius bar

I'm also concerned that iTunes won't allow me to sync the HD tv shows with the apple TV. Sounds stupid but I was unable to even see that there are HD tv shows available through the Apple TV. Had to download it from iTunes.

^ok i just figured out what you were doing wrong. First you have to enable the itunes store genius bar. So when you select a song in your playlist, the bar to the right hand side will display all related music to purchase. IF you click the genius bar button on the bottom right of iTunes THEN it will generate a playlist from your library and give you the option to save the playlist.

oic, i never left the genius side bar open long enough to let it load. ha.

Well thats DAMN good that your personal Genius is separated from the itunes Genius. So simply closing the genius sidebar outta keep it clean and spam free, w/o effecting your own stuff.

So far Genius is working pretty awesome.

I love the genius bar.

But, the main limitation is that since suggestions are ONLY plucked from the iTMS, you're not likely to find obscure music that someone else with your tastes has discovered. Hopefully though Apple is also harvesting this information to have this music added to the iTMS.

And i'm glad to see a desktop app that actually is using some statistical AI, i hope Apple puts this technology elsewhere in the OS.

if anyone has any issues with syncing after iTunes 8/FW 2.1 with the Touch:

Unplug the iPod usb cable.
Completely shut down the iPod.
Quit iTunes.
Plug in the iPod usb cable.
Sync...

Profit.

apparently when you purchase HD tv shows it downloads both the HD and SD files automatically.

I would really like to see the purchase of HD movies and not just rentals. That would be uber

top of the list there are 3 buttons that switch between list view, new album view, and cover flow.

^np

keep in mind (although it probably won't effect you since you don't like the new view) but iTunes 8 doesn't allow you to use the new album view when viewing Genius created playlists. Not sure why that is.

I do like the new album view, especially for TV shows.

I haven't had any issues.

It actually is one of the better iTunes releases in a while (since like v. 4 IMO).

The movie playback is substantially better (use to be lots of lag before), and the UI is cleaner to me.

My only complaint is that the tiled view is horribly slow, iPhoto can do this fine, but iTunes chokes on a quad core with 2GB of RAM to just display a few album covers.
