the cheapest retail one is like $200 - they can't be THAT complicated... anyone know of any diy plans or schematics for one? or at least know what the guts are?

They are in their simplest format two way repeaters tuned to the appropriate cell provider frequency...shit I thought I had a site bookmarked about some of this...lemme look through my 2 way radio bookmarks...hang on.....

$200 is because there isn't a huge demand for them, and people buying them are companies who don't give a crap about $200...

it's an RF system which requires controlled impedances which means tighter precision which means costs more. An LNA and power amp are very simple circuit topologies that are tremendously complicated in the details and are more of an art... ece792x
