starts in 2 weeks.
best comedy on network TV, hands down.

The Tina Fey/Sarah Palin thing got me pumped for it, and I watched a couple old episodes on DVD last night.... what a great show

for any new comers (it needs all the ratings it can get), check out some episodes on hulu.com
http://www.hulu.com/30-rock
they only have a few episodes from S2, unfortunately. The best ones I can think of are in S1

"Dear Liz Lemon: While other women have bigger boobs than you, no other woman has as big a heart. When I saw you getting ready to go out and get nailed by a bunch of guys last night, I knew for sure it was over between us, and for the first time since the ‘86 World Series, I cried… I cried like a big, dumb homo. And if it was up to me, we’d be together forever. But there’s a new thing called “women’s liberation”, which gives you women the right to choose and you have chosen to abort me, and that I must live with. So tonight, when you arrive home, I’ll be gone. I officially renounce my squatter’s rights."

ahh fuck!.
I thought it was September 25....
g'dammit.

oh well, i guess i'll probably re-watch all of S1 and 2 before then

Dennis is awesome. the one I watched last night was S1 E13, where Dennis's cousin moves in at the beginning of the show:
Liz: Who's horse is that? [about the dog]
Dennis: That my cousin Teddy's. He hurt his foot running from two black guys when they pulled a gun on him.
Liz: Why did you feel the need to tell me the muggers were black?
Dennis: They weren't muggers. They were cops. And you're racist for assuming they were muggers because they're black.

then in Jack Meets Dennis:
Quote :
"Jack: That's a sharp tie you've got there Dennis.
Dennis: That douchebag up front made me wear it.
Jack: Does he know you're the Beeper King?
Dennis: I don't think so.
Liz: This is clearly the nicest restaurant we've ever been to.
Dennis: Hold on a second, this place ain't that nice, alright. It's got rats and roaches like every other restaurant.
Liz: No rat talk tonight, okay.
Dennis: [to Jack] You know there are 17 million rats per person in Manhattan. You eat a pound of rat crap every year without even knowing it, huh?
Jack: I think I read about that in The New Yorker. [pause] Um, anyway, we'll leave you two to your meal. I hope you enjoy the choices that you've made."

this is one of my favorite Dr. Spaceman exchanges:
Quote :
"Dr. Leo Spaceman: I have the results of your DNA Test, now, I am very serious about doctor/patient confidentiality, so I am gunna have to ask that all four of us keep this to ourselves.

Tracy Jordan: Doctor Spaceman, when they check my DNA, will they tell me what diseases I might get, or help me to remember my ATM pin code?
Dr. Leo Spaceman: Absolutely. Science is whatever we want it to be.

Dr. Leo Spaceman: Boy, it's crazy to think we used to settle questions of paternity by dunking a woman in water until she admitted she made it all up.
[Chuckles]
Dr. Leo Spaceman: Hmm, different time in the '60s.

dr spaceman is the bomb
Quote :
" Dr. Spaceman: Now Jenna, medically speaking for your height your weight puts you what we call the "disgusting" range. Fortunately there are solutions. For Example, crystal meth has been shown to be very effective. How important is tooth retention to you?
Jenna: It's pretty important. "

I believe that vampires are the world's greatest golfers but their curse is that they'll never get to prove it! I believe there are 31 letters in the white alphabet. Well...what was the question again?"

Quote :
" Tracy: Who else is gonna be at this thing?
Jack: Well, you're going to be sharing the stage with Nas...
Tracy: No! He hates me! We used to date the same girl.
Jack: What about Young Jeezy?
Tracy: Forget about it. I called his pitbull a gaywad on 106th and Park.
Liz: That would do it.
Jack: The Game?
Tracy: Nope.
Jack: T.I.?
Tracy: Ain't nothin' happenin'.
Jack: Superhead?
Tracy: No can do.
Jack: Fabolous?
Tracy: Won't do.
Jack: Ridonkey Kong?
Tracy: No!
Jack: MC Skat Kat?
Tracy: What?!
Jack: Harmonculous?
Tracy: Mnh-mnh!
Jack: Raw Dog?
Tracy: Hell no! Me and his beef go way back. We were both cast members on a Nickelodeon show called "Ray-Ray's Mystery Garage."
[flashback to Ray-Ray's Mystery Garage]
Young Raw Dog: Hey, chump, you scuffed my sneakers! Dr. J wears these!
Young Tracy: I'm sorry, man. I'm pretty drunk.
Young Raw Dog: Know what? Imma eat your family! "

My favorite Dennis part was the one that ended with:

Dennis: Beepers are making a comeback, technology is cyclical.
Liz: No, it's not..

hey, you know when would be a great time to premier the 3rd season? Maybe the week after 30 Rock wins 5 emmys!

No, wait.... 1.5 months later will be just fine.

i swear, NBC better not let this show die.....

Well to be fair to NBC the show has been scheduled for Oct. 30th weeks before the Emmys and they have given us three seasons so far despite low ratings. But yea, they could have paired it with The Office premiere.

it is clearly the best show in television.

you don't?
really....?

Have you seen the shows that get the highest ratings? 2.5 Men? According to Jim?
You expect people who watch those shows to come over to 30 Rock, the smartest, most rapid-fire, most cutting satirical comedy on TV?

Now, of course, why those other shows get all the ratings is the question you should be asking....

they're going to put the season premier online on October 23!
http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/10/13/hey-how-come-30-rock-hasnt-premiered-yet/

that's good so we can see it, but I can't imagine this will help the ratings.... unless they suppose that only hardcore fans will watch it online, then maybe they'll also watch on premier night?

yeah, it actually got a bit slap-sticky there at the end. Not big on the fast cuts and physical comedy.

Not one of their best, but still a pretty good start to the season

my rating for this episode went up on the 2nd viewing. Maybe it was better to see the whole thing in HD and it kept my attention better, but I caught a few things I missed the first time when I watched it online (like, for some reason, I didn't see the two gay guys walk out from behind the rock when Jack found Devon in the park).

one of my new favorite lines - "We're just 'G' now, Jack. I sold the 'E' to Samsung. They're Samesung now"

yeah, not to mention, you're kind of thrown in the middle without knowing any of the characters.
There is a lot of backstory already to Liz, Jack, Devon, Tracy, Jenna and all the writers, and if you don't know, for example, that Devon is a closeted gay, his behavior might throw you off for a while (even though you can figure it out pretty quickly)

if you can find S1 E08, i think thats one of the best.

hulu seems to only have 4 full episodes, all towards the end of S2. I remember them all as good, but I don't remember enough to fully recommend one to a 30 Rock virgin.

I remember "Cooter" was good, with Matthew Broderich playing a FEMA (i think) employee. lots of good political humor
http://www.hulu.com/watch/19500/30-rock-cooter#x-0,vepisode,1
