^ you should go play with one in a store or find a youtube review or something of the such - you don't have to download an app for a qwerty keyboard? - it just doesn't have a hard keyboard

you can download replacement SIPs though or skins

My Alltel HTC Athena has been the greatest cellphone I've ever had. Also the best PDA I have ever had. HTC will have my loyalty for a long time, unless I jump to Blackberry for the Storm.

I've got a Mogul and it's the worst smart phone I've ever used. The slide out thing sucks and is really hard to use with one hand. It also insists on notifying me I missed a call when I hit the ignore call button, I mean wtf?! I know I missed it I hit ignore!

^^ the ignore problem you have isn't specifically the mogul - that's windows mobile...and if you knew how to utilize google then you'd find a solution

I'm thinking about switching to Tmobile for the G1. Does anyone have T-MO service in raleigh? How's the coverage and 3G service (has it even been implemented in the area yet)?

I've been very pleased with my 8125. I'm looking to upgrade to either the touch pro, S740, or iphone. I'll have to get a 2nd hand iphone as I do not want a data plan and don't want to pay the every $30/month.

an iphone without a dataplan is a phone with a nice interface and decent app support. I use my phone for calls and a pda, not wasting time on the internet in meetings/restaurants/etc

Just picked up an HTC Touch Pro. So far I like it. This is my first Windows Mobile Phone so I have to learn all of the add ons and hacks.

^ From where and for which carrier? Or did you just get it unlocked off ebay or something? how is it? Is the TouchFlow 3D interface laggy? I have heard some gripes that some of the icons on the touchscreen are too tiny to touch without the stylus.

got it for sprint from a best buy mobile store. they had an early exclusive. touch flo isnt too laggy. some of the icons are small, but suprisingly it is good at knowing what you hit.

Well no shit, but I had just gotten it.

I also hit the comm manager every time I slide out the keyboard somehow, the battery is near fucking impossible to get out (especially when drunk), and it locks up and is generally more unresponsive than a badly written Java GUI.

Apparently with some social engineering (read 'carefully consistent bitching') you can trade your mogul for a touch pro, but I haven't bothered trying yet.

I have one too, and while I like its functionality, the damn thing is falling apart after only a year and change. The trim piece between the two led's up top fell off, followed by the key directly above that for internet/whatever else, my alt (blue dot) key only sometimes works which is a huge pain while using the keyboard, and the finish hasn't held up well. I can put up with Windows Mobile's quirks (and apparently 6.1 fixes some of them, I just haven't bothered to upgrade yet) but the quality on the phone itself is lacking.

I'm about to go get them to replace it (I've got the equipment protection plan so that shouldn't be an issue) but that Touch Pro looks damn nice...I wonder if I could get upgraded to one of those somehow.

^ Do you like on-screen keyboards or do you prefer a real one? It's personal preference.

Me, I'd go with the TouchPro, simply because of the keyboard. In fact, it is one of the better keyboards that I've seen in a smartphone lately

i went ahead and got the touch pro...i had the original touch

first things i can tell from having it less than 24 hours

its a bit heavier which makes sense, bulkier with the keyboard...has A TON more features like the gsensor but the battery seems to have a lot less lifespan.

i'll post back with more stuff later when i get to it

but overall its a muchhhh better design if you can get over the bulky factor

How bad is the battery life on the Touch Pro? It looks like a badass phone, but battery life is my concern, it's gotten slammed pretty hard on that from what little I've seen. Granted, I'm used to the Mogul so I'm familiar with having to make sure to charge it every night anyway...

Is it "won't make it through a day with heavy internet usage" bad, or just "make sure you charge it every night" bad?

^ Everything I've read says that you should be able to make it through the day unless your usage reaches insane levels. I'll be able to let you know for sure after the end of next week when I get mine.
