Here's the deal: Company A, huge organization so good opportunities may arise later on; located in durham Company B, small private company located 2 hours away
Interviewed with both over the summer, company A offered a position and I accepted. Been here for almost 4 months now. Company B just offered me a position with only like 2k more than what i'm making already, with a 1 time relocation expense.
I'll be doing research in both places, but A is an academic setting while B is industry. I like the aspect of industry more and it has to do with my field of study more than A. Dilemma is I just signed a lease 2 days ago for an apartment in durham, i need give atleast 1 month notice to company A (so i won't be able to start until atleast Nov. 3rd), and i'm going on vacation for 3 weeks starting on the 23rd. Is it unreasonable to ask for a start date after dec. 15th when i get back from vacation?
i'm new at negotiating btw. 9/19/2008 10:56:38 AM |

If you don't mind relocating for Company B sounds like thats where you should go. But you should do it on your terms (i.e. your vacation and whatnot). Explain to them all of that and see how they react. If there's a timing issue you may need to reconsider.
