Looking for Guru to help me with setting up a Linux MCE network. Trying desperately to avoid Windows MC but my fortran programming from NCSU is VERY rusty. 9/23/2008 7:41:47 AM |

I'm pretty sure you don't have to know how to program to set it up either.

that is the biggest bullshit i've ever seen.
i've been using linux for over 10 years and had issues with Linux MCE
ONLY USE MCE IF YOU ARE USING IT WITH LIGHTING AND CRAZY ASS SHIT. 1080p x264 MEDIA FILES WILL NOT PLAY WELL WITH LINUX. If it's just a media center, use windows vista or windows xp mce and MEDIAPORTAL or MEEDIO.

http://code.google.com/p/coreavc-for-linux/ if you've got a multi-core CPU
However, VLC played 1080p just fine on my old Pentium D. 9/24/2008 7:39:58 PM |

I just installed the TV Pack 2008 for my Vista MCE install and couldn't be happier. Finally able to get QAM channels.
If you want to use linux I'd recommend mythbuntu. 9/24/2008 7:58:25 PM |

Until Microsoft fixes the network issues with VMC i'm sticking with mediaportal. VMC is almost unusable over a network.
Mythbuntu is cool though. 9/24/2008 9:15:20 PM |

tried it on a new ubuntu 8.04.1 install and couldn't get it to work ... coreavc wouldn't accept my key or whatever and couldn't find help anywhere.

the problem is read-only access. if you give it write access, it will save the thumbs to the network and not have to re-do them every time you access the folder.

^the shared folders are all access read/write. Is there another option I have to change in vmc? I'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem. 9/25/2008 2:30:13 PM |
