It's a little early but there were some announcements in the last couple of days from Animal Collective and Andrew Bird.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion (January 2009)

Quote :
"The Satan Fish on Animal Collective's website has spoken!! And, well, it all came out demonic gobbledygook. Nobody at AC home Domino Records is talking either, so we can't translate the Satan Fish's words into plain English just yet.

But it seems as if Animal Collective maybe have a new album coming out in January? The maybe follow-up to last year's way rad Strawberry Jam LP and this year's Water Curses EP is maybe called Merriweather Post Pavilion? Just like the Maryland venue? Hey, that's confusing! Also: Paul is dead."

Andrew Bird - Noble Beast (January 27th, 2009)

looks like The Appleseed Cast's Sagarmatha is going to be an early 2009 release now instead of a late 2008 release.

Also, I havent particularly liked the last few deftones records, but I buy all of them since "adrenaline" was my first record purchase But they have a new album that still says 2008 but I see it becoming a 2009 release at this point.

mewithoutYou should have a new record this year. They are one of the few bands who, imho, have had each album get successively better. Their last record Brother, Sister was by FAR my favorite album of 2006, however they lost one of their key writing components and so I am very skeptical of them topping Brother, Sister unfortunately, but we'll see.

It is possible for BTBAM to have a new record out late next year. They will be writing the new album this winter so it just depends on studio time and label stuff.

Jimmy Eat World and Muse have both been working on new records from what I have seen, which leaves a possibility for releases from both of them next year.

Isis has a new album slated for release mid 2009 per an interview not long ago.

The Mars Volta has stated they have enough material for a new album (possibly two) as well as multiple solo albums from Omar. They are supposed to be working on them towards the end of 2008.

Thursday is already in the studio working on a new album to be released in Spring 2009.

and oh yea, maybe Called To Arms will finally finish writing their full length and get it out the door in 2009

The Decemberists - Hazards of Love
supposed to be folksier, toned down from the progginess of The Crane Wife. the tracks are being mixed now, so i'm hoping it leaks before the year is over. going by the strength of the already-leaked Always a Bridesmaid, songs that didn't make the cut for the forthcoming LP, i have high hopes for this.

Has anyone heard anything about new albums from Jason Lytle (solo effort from lead singer of Grandaddy) or Midlake?

I thought the Midlake may leak before the end of 2008, and I had heard similar things about Lytle's record, but I have seen no sign of either.

I am also looking forward to the new Andrew Bird --- if you're on his mailing list, some North American tour dates and album release information have already been sent out, although it isn't much.

Are they going to fix the antiquated stereo split?

Because that shit sounds AWFUL especially in a decent-sized room.

Wow. every one of the albums posted in this thread looks like they were created using that "pick a random picture from flicker and a random phrase from wikipedia" game. I guess now I see why that thread was so amusing.

Thank you very much. I cannot fucking wait.

Also, I had heard nothing of a possible Grandaddy/Earlimart split EP. Makes sense, given their relationship, I had yet to hear anything about it.

Damn, I would have absolutely loved to have seen them on either the Sumday or Sophtware Slump tours.

Unfortunately, I was out of state in law school at the time of Sophtware Slump and shows were having to take a back seat for a while. The Sumday tour coincided with my last semester and then the bar exam, so I was completely fucked.

I didn't think they would break up before I ever had a chance to see them.
