Briefly mentioned here:

Anyway, the deal is that this cop man, in the midst of a big deal case, gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973 NYC where there are plenty of criminals and plenty of "hardnosed" cops. Like any cop coping with seeming time travel, he continues to fight crime as usual in the relatively unenlightened days of 1973.
Casting is excellent. Music kicks ass. And it's the 70s again, folks!!!

^^Totally. And the only reason I watched Journeyman was in hopes that he might return to the 70s.
Like that other guy mentioned, the show is a remake of a British television program.
And when the US remakes "Are You Being Served?" and "Keeping Up Appearances," I guess I'll be an ass about it, too...
^YES!!! THE ONLY THING MISSING IS SCOTT BAKULA.

i watched it last night and it was pretty good.
what differs this show is that he is actually stuck in the 70's. Not like QL or JM where he is travelling back and forth. So it's gonna be fun to see him try and fight it at first but then embrace the fact that he's stuck and just start living that life. 10/10/2008 7:49:52 AM |

What's with the all the US remakes of Brit shows these days?
I may the US version. But it looks a little cheesy (more comedy than the brit version).
I kept wanting to get into the Brit version that came on BBC, but by the time I ever found out about it (last year) there was so much shit going on that I was totally lost.

i watched it tonight for the first time, based on a friend's recommendation
not bad. Honestly, it seems like a good portion of the show is dedicated to 1) showing funny things (technology, clothes, hairstyles, etc) from the 70's so we can laugh at them, and 2) setting up the main character to say things about the future that nobody else understands.
oh, and 3) playing cheesy Shaft music at any time possible
so, I think i got the premise generally, but am I missing anything here? He wakes up in 1973.... then what? He showed up to this precinct and got a job, no questions asked? Has he told the blonde chick what's going on? Is he trying to figure out how to get back to 2008? I thought it was pretty clear after this episode (the only one I've seen) that he's in a coma in 2008, and all this is going on in his head 11/13/2008 11:09:01 PM |

yeah the british version wasn't cancelled. It ended the way they wanted it to. British television is a lot different, sometimes for the better, compared to american. They don't drag shows out for 5+ seasons, the exception of course being Dr. Who. But 11th Hour, Life on Mars, the Office all wrapped up in < 3 Seasons.
oh..

He wakes up and goes to his precinct where they were expecting him. He is Sam Tyler an apparent transfer from an upstate district in NY. If you watch he'll make remarks about "thats not the way its done where i'm from" and his coworkers will say things like "Where, upstate!?" All those loose ends are covered and tied up which leans more that its in his head. And if you've watched the british version you already know (if abc decides to go that route)

i want to like this show, but so far the writing has only ranged from terrible to mediocre. the Twin Peaks-esque moments from the last show are a step in the right direction, but we'll see how long they can sustain it. 2/6/2009 4:32:10 PM |

whoa -
so, i've watched maybe 2 or 3 episodes of this show, and it seemed pretty fun but I didn't watch it regularly.
but I watched it tonight because I heard it's the last episode b/c it was cancelled.
the whole story took place in his head while he was hibernating for a trip to Mars!? Haha, pretty clever. Did they ever make any reference to anything like that throughout the season (besides one of the other guys calling him "space man")?
The closing scene was pretty funny. Guess that's good enough to tie up the show for a premature death. March 2, 2035 - "President Obama really wanted to be in the control room, but her father is seriously ill, so she and her sister went to Chicago to be by his side"
very Dallasy, but, guess they had to wrap it up pretty quickly. It was only announced on March 2nd that it was cancelled.

It wasn't cancelled, that was it. It was all a dream. The British version was only 2 seasons long. It ended with Sam waking up from a coma and then jumping off a building to get him back into the 70s. 4/1/2009 11:07:40 PM |

So I watched the first episode of this show and liked it well enough but I didn't keep watching because I was worried that they would pull some stupid ass shit about how it was all in his head the whole time and none of it was real.
Looks like I was right, so I'm kinda glad I didn't bother, but my question is this. Even though I spoiled myself to the ending, were the episodes actually good enough to bother going back and watching them? I downloaded all the HD rips on my computer so it would be easy to watch them later if I wanted. Is it worth my time to do so? 4/3/2009 8:00:52 PM |
